I go to Penn State, but since the university feels it has to protect dumb windows users from themselves, I cannot even send or recieve email with the subject, "Hi such-and-such"(Try explaining to a friend overseas who has almost never in her life touched a computer, in her language, why she can't send you mail with that subject) because it might contain the bagle virus. This is the same university that put in a firewall because supposedly too many people on campus had a butt-load of viruses and spyware.
Yet this same university loves to publish my email address on the web; ensuring I get tons of spam(some even in Chinese!)
I hate when the community at large has to pay for the transgressions of a few slimeballs and the idiocy of some(not even most) gullible windows users.

Than going after the consumers versus going after the producers(I'm not defending consumers in any way though). All this will do is ensure that the consumers use better cryptography etc to protect what they are doing. Just like they started to use the internet after the government went after the people who would order it by mail.
There is a different, and better way to catch these people. Most of these scumbags who make this stuff are quite proud of what they do, and often put both their faces and the faces of their victims in the picture. Canadian and US authorities have recently been using these faces to track down both the people commiting the acts and the victims. Going after the producers is a lot easier, and probably a lot more effective at stopping future abuse than going after consumers(esp. ones who don't pay any money), since the producers will probably continue to abuse new children regardless of whether or not they share the photos.

However, things like "satellite" services are probably scams to hook up illegal services and the like, so I doubt that they registered with anyone(very few scammers like having the government have info on them, wonder why). Thus being scams they probably leave very little evidence, even the places you would pay them are probably a front. Your best option would be to call the police, but honestly I doubt that for something like this the police would even bother with the case, probably just cover you with red tape till you give up.

The CEOs will complain to the US government. Actually, you do raise a very good point. When all the blue-collar jobs were headed towards Japan in the 70's/80's, it was the Japanese companies who were competing directly with the US companies. So the CEOs were in the same boat with the rest of us(albeit with a nicer room). When they were losing money all the talk of free trade was thrown out the window(Look at all the tariff/non-tariff barriers erected on things such as automobiles in the 80's, people quickly forget that Reagan was not a free trader). The only reason it is being preached as gospel now is that the CEOs who control the government are making money off of free trade.
When are the American people going to wake up and smell their government.

Hopefully they will release a relatively cheap form of the drug(since it cost them almost nothing to develop!), so that a lot of people in the world can have longer, more productive lives.
But it doesn't stop HIV. Even with this treatment I think it would be safer to err on the side of caution, even with 2 people that have the virus but would be taking the treatment. Mixing different strands of the virus can never be good. They say that it probably is safe from virus "evolution"(probably not the best term for it, but the HIV virus is notorious for making very poor "exact copies" and thus the genetic makeup does tend to change slightly over time)
But kudos to them, and who knows, maybe in time there will be fucking in the streets(only the invitations for /. geeks will have been "lost in the mail" and that 4% chlamydia rate will skyrocket!)

Supposedly a degree shows a willingness to challenge oneself and the ability to expand ones mental horizons. Though with the number of "diploma mills" in the US(and elsewhere) parading around as accredited schools, I doubt that is true anymore.
An education isn't supposed to be a job training program, it's supposed to help you develop the skills needed to tackle any problem. This usually means doing more experimentation and research and less belching up whatever you crammed in last night on a test. Knowing where to look up obscure details is more important than memorizing them(because you will probably forget them anyway) However, that seems to no longer be the case in America's schools, and it is indeed sad.

  21. Microsoft!=All business revenue from Software on Tocqueville Blames U.S. IT Troubles On Free Software · · Score: 5, Insightful

One just needs to look to IBM for a great counter-argument. A few months ago IBM announced that it was going to form special groups of IT people that would each concentrate on a different area(ex: manufacturing, retail, banking etc). They will get a base of FOSS then add custom software etc to that base to help the business be the most efficient it can be. Having worked in a manufacturing environment that made extensive use of Linux, I can tell you, it is a great help.
The offshoring thing is also laughable. A lot of what is being sent offshore is stuff like back office banking coding, not a whole lot of FOSS software for that. FOSS helps level the playing field between giant corporation and small business. Now a little guy can get into the game without having to sign over his first born for windows licences or have to have an army of lawyers on standby in case the BSA comes knocking on their door because someone forgot to activate their copy of XP.
Which brings me to a random aside, if you really want to avoid being offshored, SPECIALIZE! Learn something in addition to CS.
