I agree and, if possible, people who find themselves in this situation should consider switching jobs (not always practical or a wise idea, I understand). I work for an employer who does not track my movements or test my urine or ask me if smoke at home (I don't). It's a great company with great benefits that pays well. There is a great deal of mutual respect & trust between employees and owners and that seems to help allow the company to remain successful as well as a great place to work. I should note it is a small company of ten people (including the two owners) and this probably plays a role as well.

There is a similar law where I live in Maryland. I think there are a few other states with laws that require that a certain amount of sales have to be made at the list or retail price before you can use it for the basis of a sale price.

My gmail spam folder holds 30 days worth of spam. It steadily goes up over time. For a while it was holding about 24,000 but it recently jumped to nearly 26,000. I don't get much spam in my inbox as the gmail spam filters seem to work well (my ten year old email account that I used before gmail is forwarded to my gmail address).

I do enjoy using Wikipedia for day-to-day use but I would not have used it for either of my Masters Thesis' as I don't think either oral defense committee would have accepted Wiki as an authoritative source. Perhaps that is different from school to school. Still, I wonder about the student puzzling how he/she will finish a thesis. I would suggest using mostly journal articles.

I am not sure that it is reasonable to consider error rate primarily as errors per unit of text. In that case, one could write a submission and then insert a lot of fluff to lower the "error rate." I would consider the absolute amount of errors per submission at least as important as the quantity of errors as a function of quantity of text. Just a thought.

I take it that this will translate into the vast majority of what is downloaded being above ninety-nine cents; otherwise, I don't see why they would bother with "flexible pricing." I know this is cynical - but I suspect that this is intended to be flexible mostly in an upward direction . . .

Micheal Dell would have been smarter had he reserved judgement. Arrogance can sure come back 'round and bite you in the ass. In terms of profit margin one has to consider that Dell is bringing in revenue of around 14 billion a quarter versus Apple's 4 billion so I am not sure how to judge the differences in profit margin given the difference in revenue. Dell probably has a great deal more infrastructure. Oh, well. Just saying we should make sure we are comparing Apples to Apples (funny, huh?).

This is a pervasive problem. Too many folks blithely assume that if they find a piece of information posted on the Internet it must be a fact. Too many articles site "facts" without citing the source(s) of those fact(s). And, even then, the sources need to be vetted as well. Critical and thorough peer-review gives some degree of confidence when we learn something from a scientific journal. This sort of review is not available (in general) on the Internet. So, a lot of care must be taken before assuming a fact is, indeed, a fact.
