1. It's a pain to develop for Symbian. I hate to say it but .NET is easier.
I agree that it's not easy to develop for Symbian, but to say .NET is better is an exaggeration. At least I can use CVS while developing for Symbian, and don't have to put up with VSS and this "solution" idioticy. From the other hand deficiency of documentation and "niche" character of Symbian create an openeing for small/independent developers.

[/paranoid mode on] It seems Nokia will squeeze independent developer more soon. Until recently Nokia SDK was free, now they talking about taking payment for it. They have "Nokia OK" programm - developer have to pay for testing, or get installation security warning. If other companies drop Symbian, Nokia remain sole owner and can force developers to pay for licenses to develop for Symbian... [/paranoid mode off]

8. Re:Why would Russia be pissed off? on Trojan Horse Caused A Siberian Explosion · · Score: 1
Why would Russia be pissed? Russia itself was illegitimately occupied and controlled by the USSR: it had to struggle to get free of it. Boris Jeltsin, one of the leaders who fought to free Russia from the USSR, himself referred to the USSR as an "evil empire".
That's not how russians think about it. Eltsin never called USSR an "evil empire". Whatever he was talking about "criminal authtorities" was just political maneuring suited to the moment (to overthrow communists). A lot of russians remeber USSR with nostalgy, and consider current Russia situation as a temporary setback, expecting it to be a superpower again in some future. Currently average russians are very anti-americanish. As soon as russian media sniff this story where will be a lot of noise, and nacionalists block will just love it.

So it's basically an MD5 (or equiv hashing method) of the image at the time it's taken? Too bad -- I thought they had a unique idea to verify images that had already been taken. I think it's possible, though not easy, and only possible for set of images, taken from different positions, and even better with slight modification (like move this rock couple of inch to the left). It's extremly hard to forge a set of images - you have to build complete 3d model taking into account lighting, air transperency, distortions and property of the camera...Even if it is possible it should take a lot of time (coding, not rendering itself)

12. my bet is Symbian on Linux Headed For Smartphone Domination? · · Score: 1

I think Symbian have better chances then Linux for smartphones, at least nearest several years (5-6). Not only it have installed base already, it also a system tailored for smartphones. It has modular kernel and extremly defensive memory managment, nothing like this in Linux (yet). The concept is that app should run for years without single crush. Linux will probaly be a niche OS for bigger, powerfull handheld bordering on be a wearable PC.
