Can you always be 100% certain the person being executed is guilty?
Two wrongs don't make a right, that's the point why most people are agains the death penalty, globally I mean, don't know about the U.S, since they seem to justify all kind of killings.
I'm from Finland. "Lifetime" (longest) sentence is 12 years here. Don't really see the point of locking people up. I'm not trolling here, I really didn't know you guys have so long sentences there, seems kind of absurd.
That sentence sounds really absurd, Seventy years? Don't really know the US law, but I thought that in modern world there would be no sentences over 20 years.
In soviet russia they have been doing this for years. There is even an old video in Internet Archive (it seems to be down at the moment), where they kill some dog and bring it back to life.
The link was to show where "not usable in the free world"-phrase came from and because this implemention is in conflict with GPL it really don't change the situation from that point of view.
Seems that Harmony will be licenced under Apache License v2.0 so it will not be GPL compatible.
So once again Java will not be usable in the free world. Sad to hear.
Modifications
FZ: When Valve released Half-Life 2 last year criticism quickly arose due to the fact that they assumed people wanting to do modifications would have access to the commercial compiler and IDE Microsoft Visual C++.NET 2003, which costs several hundreds of euros. What tools will be required to fully modify Battlefield 2 in addition to the tools that DICE will provide?(Steven Svensson)
LG: We have greatly enhanced our support for modders by giving the option to create modifications through the script language Python. This means that there will be no requirement to have access to Microsoft Visual C++ as you mentiond in your question.
This is perfect use for python language. Nice to see this kind of solution in a commercial game.
Why don't you people use allofmp3.com. It's really cheap compared to thise 99cents shops and there are lots of options for formats (Supported file types: Mp3, Wma, Ogg, Mpc, FLAC, Monkey Audio, Mpeg - 4 AAC iTunes compatible).
Enjoy the globalization;)
Police is investigating major Internet copyright violation crime
(original finnish article here, and press release from police)
Published 16:01 (14.12.2004)
Central criminal police is investigating a illegal sharing of copyrighted materials, including movies, music and other applications happened in Internet. They have done several homesearches around Finland.
Police says that the material was being shared using BitTorrent -peer to peer application. In peer to peer networks the files are shared among users. Network in question required user registration.
Four people are suspected as being head administrators of the network and 30 other for assisting the network operating. The network had approximately 10 000 users, which were all finnish.
Maximum punishment from copyright violation is 2 years in prison. Also the copyright holders have possibility to ask pay for damages. The network had about 6 000 different products downloadable, like movies, music, applications and games. One product could have been for example a cd disc, artist's whole production or multiple movies.
Estimated damages are starting from several million euros. One euro is 1,31 US dollars.
This is understandable: most visual art is unique and based on your own talent, where programming is more about efficiency and the end result.
I don't want to troll but it is really sad to see that people treat programming still this way. Programmers are artist just like "real" artist and in the end they both contribute their own time and talent to the project so they should at least be treated equally.
I would recomend using unstable rather than testing. Testing don't even get any security updates or new software soon enough so it's pretty useless. And at least desktop users should be running unstable not stable or testing. It's not so unstable that it is useless. I have been running it for a while (couple of years) and I have had zero problems. Other people are making distros based on it (Ubuntu). It's really sad to see that people are avoiding it because it called "unstable", it should be renamed as desktop debian or something like that.

Nice news. I still somehow doubt that the greatest C64 game of all time Great Giana Sisters will appear on Wii ;)
Seems that The Pirate Bay is up and running again.
OMG, Ubuntu is closing on Debian.
Debian unstable has weekly snapshots of cvs emacs.- snapshot
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/editors/emacs
I have been using it for some time now and it works like a charm.
allofmp3.com gets also my vote. Dirty cheap prices and big collection.
At least they have a webpage http://www.korea-dpr.com/
Ummm... what country are you in?

Mplayer segfaults all over the place due to an audio bug and the ubuntu devs have done nothing to fix it.
They are waiting for debian devs to fix that package ;)

After Sarges release there will be nice new things coming to unstable:
;)
KDE 3.4
GNOME 2.10
gcc 4.0
xorg 6.8.2
python 2.4
Long live Debian
Hopefully wavebirds will be also backwards compatible. It would be same if I have to thorw those away.
It's time for us consumers now pay to look at ads too?

http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005 /03/msg00012.html Some info about the upcoming release.
Looks like unstable is going to get some boost after sarges release, major package changes coming up: gcc 4.0, python 2.4, xorg-x11 6.8.2, apt 0.6.Modifications .NET 2003, which costs several hundreds of euros. The most difficult thing in being self employed is : learn to charge for everything. If you work on something, even if it is only 5 minutes : bill'em
Do I have to pay you or do you bill slashdot for your advice?
If you like Gnome more than KDE you should really try Gnoppix.

Processing the whole case will take months.
Try searching with sex, porn etc. no results. It is in some safety mode or what?
