    Have you SEEN what Terminal Services and MetaFrame do to NT? It is almost required that they be rebooted nightly, otherwise they slow down to the point of unusability, which takes about three days.

    I won't declare Good TV dead until Mr Rogers goes off the air. As long as he is alive, there will be an itty-bitty bit of "Good TV" left.

    Many unicies (sp?) disallow root login from network terminals. In *BSD, you even have to be in the wheel group to su root.

    Someone that does not know how to use telnet should not be trying to break into another machine. You have to walk before you can run.

    Not knowing about telnet implies a general vacuum in the unix/ip-clue area.

    What about the ability to run a program on one computer and display it on a second (appearing as though it were actually running on the second).

    That last feature leaves Windows+pcAnywhere in the dust.


    WinNT TSE and optionally MetaFrame (realisticly, you have to have MF; Citrix is very much in bed with MS). If you *really* want to use that sort of thing.

    Don't let the sh*tty consumer Presarios shape your opinion of Compaq hardware. The business class Deskpros (except for the EP - I *hate* that thing) and the Proliants are pretty nice.

    Well...

    If your NT orkstation is attached to a domain, then domain admins can still play with your services. And your "admins" need to have their heads smacked for not having NTFS and leaving things like the sms.ini file open for putzs (putzes?) to play with.

    Mine's hit the pavement several times and is fine, I wonder if the newer ones can do the same.

    I managed to drop my P3 on it's top corner onto a marble floor and it croaked. When I called customer support, I was very pleasantly suprised that they replaced it for free. No fees for me, not even shipping. Now that is customer service.

    The Palm was never intended to be a complete portable computer, it complements your computer and allows you to take your vital information with you wherever you go. If you want 16 bit color, mp3 playback and PCMCIA network cards and 4-8 hrs battery life, get a WinCE. I don't need or want any of that.


    And compare the formfactor of the Palm V and a Casio E-105.

    Can Windows 2000 use "old" NT4 device drivers?
    Nope. I was rewarded with a BSOD at startup when I tried the nVidia Detenator drivers with build 2000. To W2k's credit, it realized that the video drivers caused the crash and reset them to plain vga.

    I *highly recommend Ghost by Symantec. It is a very nifty program. (It was written by Binary Research LTD and sold to Symantec).
