Imagine this scenario: A household is only entitled
to use as much energy as it produces, without severe financial impact. A house would be forced to have
enough solar collectors and be efficient enough to have zero-load (averaged throughout the day) on the grid. Add to that a basement pool of bio-diesel-algae to provide 'mobile energy' and we have a sustainable winner.
Pity about those apartment dwellers, however...
I was depressed to see that section on mp3/digital format players was a far cry from what the 'old' mp3.com had. Instead of listing pretty much every player (portable or not), it now appears that the only players listed are the ones that have paid for the spot ! I could be mistaken, but I did not see any mention of mp3/wma home appliances (ala audiotron) nor did i see any of the lesser known brands of portables (like the nex II).
So what was once a shot at getting the 'lille guy' in front of the world, is now a slick marketing engine. Sad, very sad.

Case in point: calling 'Karn Evil 9 (impression 1/2/3)' by ELP 'Welcome back my friends...' !
...time to fsck, and recovery after a crash for the journaled file systems ? These are of greater importance to me than 10000 deletes.
How long will it take to verify my file system of 300GB after the sysadmin killed power to the wrong server ? Did I lose any data ? you know the drill.
...i would think that any company that has a bank of autodialing fax machines will probably have a machine set up to rec'v faxes, ocr them, and do some form of validity.
however, if the intent is to not only tie up the offrnding fax line, but to incur significant charges to the line (assuming the inbound line is an 800 number) , then the above trick of sending a 250 page black doccument is 'a winner' !
If you consider that Larry Ellison is listed as 'founder' and not 'co-founder' of Oracle. And when
an author (despite being both talented and popular) is listed, but people like Donald Knuth are left off, I wonder if you need a good PR person is a requirement...
Umm-I am assuming you didnt read the original article, that tells of batteries AND HD backup on the DSI disks. Which makes them not only a whole
lot faster than HD (alone), but probably a whole lot more reliable.
The great thing about this is that you would not have to put the WHOLE database in RAM, just the 'areas' that are used heavily. In Oracle, that would be the TEMP tablespace (where sorting, etc occurs), The REDO areas (self explanitory), and the LOG areas. Just those areas alone (and maybe some indices) would probably increase I/O performance dramatically.
The way the headhunter (and employers) curtail the 'switching' is by using signing bonuses, which are either payable in full, or prorated, should the employee jump ship. But that was 'in the day', when kids fresh out of school could demand 120k/yr . Nowadays, they are happy to take any job that does not use the word 'fries' as part of daily business...
I was running RH on my servers for some time, but
it was almost an act-of-god (and not covered under my insurance policies) to get the correct XF86 settings on my laptop. On a whim went out and purchased SUSE 7.x (I am now on 9.0) and not only
did it detect the correct config for the graphics, I also got Yast in the deal ! I have been running SuSE on my laptop(s) and my servers, with no regrets.
It was called 'anti-bounce' circuits, in early days of digital logic and key(pads/boards). A timing loop
is run to determine the length of the key-press.
It was assigned to every new EE grad out there, way back when.
Way prior art !
Check out Oracle's web site. they are very specific about WHICH linux distributions and WHICH apps/tools that are supported under OCFS.

Impliction ? Anything not listed MIGHT corrupt the files !
