It is also, of course, impossible that it encrypts the *entire* disk. It may encrypt all the partitions your running system uses, but unless your BIOS has encryption support (which it doesn't), you can't have an encrypted boot partition.

Your concept of impossible is, of course, a little bit flawed, for I have at least 5 *entire* disks encrypted in this single box I am writing on. And some of them has no partitions, just a filesystem over raw disk.

I remember there is an old Czech SciFi movie about an utopian society where men are obselete and women procastrinate by cloning. Anyone remember then name?

That movie is not Czech, but Polish, original title is "Sexmisja" (Sexmise in Czech dabing). Some early 80', I guess. In after-nuclear war epoch, women consolidated a society in underground bunkers-mines system, ruled by two opposing organizations, Genetix and Archeo, struggling each other with different ideologies... until they found a hybernation chamber with two frozen men in excavations.

As an American, am I a fool if I decide to undertake this for a living?

Being American or not, it depends on your attitude to personal sovereignty. If you plan to spend your life as a slave employee your life will depend on too much events you cannot control, not just offshoring. Anyone able to point and click can take a "software engineer" position, just like anyone able to handle shovel could take a "machine engineer" in steam age.

But if you decide to take your own responsibility of yourself, good knowledge of programming can help you to start your own enterprising from almost the total zero of capital investment. Because with just an idea, you can make a real product without any other resources than yourself. This is not possible in any other industry with the exception of artwork and sex market.

At the moment, not many users have good hardware for virtualisation but that will change in 2008 and I give XEN not so much chances to get major market slice.
