    will tell Time Machine it can use all volumes visible to it, including network shares. I'm going to try this with sshfs tomorrow.

    Until then, we have Obama, who really does seem promising in terms of actually being a GOOD president and having some real ideas for fixing our broken government, Hillary, who is at least not nuts and orders of magnitude smarter than what we have now, and McCain, who is DEFINITELY smarter than George and highly competent even if he did run hard-right after the 2002 election.

    Are not that it's a "perpetual motion machine" but that he may have found a way to make electric motors significantly more efficient. This by itself is an entirely believable claim, and I think worthy of further serious investigation.

    Why would anyone develop commercial software (let alone shrinkwraped retail boxes) for Linux, given that nobody is using it on the desktop who would also buy retail software?

    This is simply not true. Ever heard of these guys?

    Desktop software will come, especially for gaming. It already exists, in fact, for the HL and UT engines. Penny Arcade's new game is going to be tri-platform when released.

    So, really... what are you talking about?

    And how is it that I get by just fine on my MBP while having purchased precisely *two* pieces of non-game commercial software -- Keynote and VMWare? NeoOffice, MacPorts, OOMMF and a host of other perfectly Mac-compatible free and Free software take care of all my needs.

    Vista is dog-fucking-slow on my C2D Conroe 2.66GHz machine w/ 2GB of RAM, 7200RPM SATA HDD and a GF7950 compared to Ubuntu.

    I took an AI course in college that included Lisp and found it to be mostly worthless. All of the concepts you'd want to illustrate can be done with fairly well-studied constructs in C.

    The department sounds right to me. "Seduction" is an excellent skill to have.

    Honestly, though, it sounds like he's in a good place career-wise. If he wanted to go on to grad school, he would definitely want to study data structures and algorithms in greater detail, as that's what a lot of the tougher classes end up revolving around.
