But how will they be able to take my job if these computers have no processing power?
[Obligatory Reply to the Joke]
Lets see if we are laughing 10 years from now.
Now I will wait to see if I get the obligatory mod points for posting something thought provoking.
Is this to appeal to 12 year old girls???
Seriously, is somebody going to change the color of the X-box to correspond to either red or blue based on their Halo team color?
Maybe.. If they want, they will have the option and that is important. I want to show off my personality through my xbox. I will have a new face plate every year based on whatever..
[Back to real mode] Some of us have wives that want the hardware to go with the furniture and the wall color and it is hell lot easier to change the xbox plate to match the walls than the other way round.
"Xenon's CPU has three 3.0 GHz PowerPC cores. Each core is capable of two instructions per cycle and has an L1 cache with 32 KB for data and 32 KB for instructions.
.. and the latest EGM reports that an insider has told them that there is no competition between the specs of Xbox2 and PS3. PS3 is supposed to be "insanely powerful". It would be very interesting to see what the actual specs would be for them.
Anyway, I am starting to save money as I want all three of them, no compromise. I hope the other two support a good Live! like service. Otherwise it is going to be a very difficult decision, especially for people like me, who do not fall in any fanboy category.
After all, US$400 is 'only' about GB£214 - that's GB$86 less than the price of the Xbox on launch (before it was dropped to GB£200 in a few months).
If xbox was launched at USD300 and GBP300, what makes you think they will launch xbox2 at USD400 and price match the USD in pounds.. i.e. GBP214?? They might go for GBP350 or something like that.
Personally, I think
1. There will be only one version of xbox2
2. It will be backwards compatible
3. It will launch at USD299
Why? Because it makes sense to do this to give Sony a good fight AND because MS has been "hinting" at something different.
and yes,
4. Sony will come up with an answer to xbox Live!
That means once you sell some IP, be it a book, CD, whatever, you lose control over the copy.
but are you buying the IP or the license to use the (game) software here. I am for any measure to reduce piracy. Being a software engineer I cannot see some others being robbed of a single penny of their hard work. If an evil publisher makes profit in this transaction, I don't care. If you think you are being overcharged for a game by the publisher or the developer, just don't buy it. There are enough other things to do in life anyway.
BTW, what do I do if I do not have internet connection? Also can I play this game on multiple machines (not at the same time:) )?
PS: If people started making Wendy's hamburgers at their homes and selling them as "Wendy's hamburgers" at a profit and not one cent being given to Wendy's, Wendy's SHOULD and WILL resort to something to prevent this.
I play mostly on the xbox and I do care about the stats/stop myself from throwing the controller when I am playing a game like Top Spin (singles) where I, and only I, am responsible for my scores. Yes, I do want to be one of the best in this case.
OTOH, while playing games like Rainbow Six3, stats have little importance to me as they depend on many factors, one of them being who you play with. I do not belong to a clan so my game stats vary depending on the team-communication/covering each other. In games like Retrieval(RainbowSix CTF), my stats suck as I am the guy with the canister most of the time.. I like doing that but I get shot a lot too. unfortunately, the game does not have a column for successfully retrieving the canister. Big deal.. I have loads of fun playing these.
..and you have to take the stats with a pinch of salt anyways.

someone who never exploited the lean glitch in the original RS63:)
1. Xbox2 without HD and not backwards compatible
2. Xbox2 without HD but backwards compatible
3. Xbox2 with HD but not backwards compatible
4. Xbox2 with HD and backwards compatible
And I have not even mentioned the variants due to Thompson, Philips and Samsung
Ok for someone to steal the phone book from my Nokia from a mile away, my Nokia needs to be modded also, right? To send the data over a mile away. Or am I missing something? I watched that TechTV stunt where they connected to a cell phone using a modded linksys dongle but they did not mention modding the Nokia. If they did not, how did the Nokia transmit more than a mile?
Thanks for any helpful response.
Why? 'Cause it's coming out so late, or because it runs like an utter dog? Check out the video on the last demo disc.... it seems to slow down at key points... like when 2 zombies are on screen.
Thanks for confirming this. When i saw that I thought I got a problem with my disc.
Einstein used to stay awake for days thinking about things. He also would forget to comb his hair or bathe, change clothes that kind of stuff. Crazy....
I often experience this.. when I am playing my xbox
For the record: I am a big fan of xbox, xbox games and the Live service.
With this inclusion of video conferecing, we will have something that can be used nicely for non-gaming purposes and gamers will have to fight for the xbox time with non-gamer family members who want to video conference with friends. and ofcourse there are other concerns like kids video conferencing with playmates.
I can only hope that there is no plan to include things like home shopping, lottery purchase, horse-betting, flight reservation through xbox[nintendo deja-vu]. I want xbox to serve only one purpose, games .
EA: Ok we will do Live but you need to back off from Sports title.
MS: What? No?? We have NFL Fever out there
MS: ok seriously.. can we continue rallisport and Top Spin?
EA1 whisper to EA2: MS thinks rallisport is a sports game
EA: ok.. release rallisport update now, push TopSpin for xbox2. Get rid of Links though. Tiger is mad about it.
MS: Will do. But you will do Live before this Holiday season..
EA: We will!
You said "Perhaps, like jobs in the tech industry, these threatening letter writing jobs are being farmed out to lawyers in India."
You imply that Indian lawyers are not good at drafting legal documents and since lawyers, in general, are supposed to be better at drafting documents than an average citizen, you are implying that Indians in general suck at written English.
You are obviously not good at knowing your stuff. Your statement was an attack on competence of Indians in general and you are given 10 nanoseconds to provide an apology.
---
Seriously, that statement was in bad taste. If you have problems in outsourcing, you should attack (verbally) people who outsource, making such remarks on the competence of Indians is totally uncalled for.
Thanks to slashdot for considering it very funny and bringing out to the notice of everyone.
Why, oh why, do people seem to single out gaming as the only violent influence on a child? You think a 12 year old has never seen gore until he plays GTA3? Watching the Detroit TV news in the morning, I see more violence than I do most of the evening playing video games. I'm guaranteed at least a murder a night on Law & Order on TNT, and a extra one on the new episode on NBC, not to mention SVU and Criminal Intent. Just recently, a kid killed his... cousin? sister? by emulating professional wrestling - shall we legislate that too?
First of all, watching a murder on a Law and Order (mostly the act of murder is never shown anyways) cannot be compared with having an Uzi in your hand and gunning down people yourself, even in a game.
That said, I am not trying to single out games for violent behaviour. My point is parents know about what is shown in various TV shows, but there is not as much awareness about the content of the games. They can decide what to do after sufficient information is available to them easily and at right places. Some sort of awareness should be created about the ratings stuff. Even a simple thing like displaying a big placard explaining ESRB ratings next to the games aisle is not done. There is a big difference between playing Outlaw on Atari and RainbowSix3 on xbox. I only want parents to know the diference. They definitely care but are just not as well informed as they should be.
I met a grandmom shopping for an xbox game for her grandson (not in store). Seems he wanted XIII, she looked at the box and was not happy about it. I was shopping for a game also and we started talking a bit. She told me that she wants to give a good game to her grandson but she does not want him to play with games where you kill people. She had no idea about the ratings. Thanks to me, she walked out with TopSpin:) I felt like a boy scout and
left the store before her grandson came looking for me.
Spot on. I had a similar thought when I was playing RainbowSix3 the other day. It was clear that a few of the players were not even 13 (The game is rated M for 17 and above). All the players there are usually very expressive and the game is violent (It is a great game). The first thing I thought was why are the parents allowing them to play this.
The other day in Blockbuster, a younger brother wanted to rent a very violent game. These are the exact words, I kid you not.
younger: Lets get this one. You can kill a lot of people. elder: What weapons do you use? Younger(excited): A chainsaw!! elder: No, that is too gory (or violent)
Yes! Age does make a big difference.
This rating system is a joke. Many of the parents do not even know that it exists. We need ways to enforce the same and inform the parents. The games are going to penetrate more and more . A few suggestions (I am not sure if they are followed already):
o Mandatory ID check before M rated games sell o If parent is buying, give an information booklet or atleast tell them what kind of game it is. o Inform about the Live talk. o Games information booklet must have screenshots of the content that prompted the rating. o (violent games above kids level of vision in stores. Many stores let you grab the cover of any game and when the kids touch it and see it, they ARE going to be tempted. Parents might know how responsible their kids are but they do NOT know about the ones who they play these games with) If there is a remote possibility that a school shootout was triggered in part by a violent game, lets avoid it. We all want to continue to play games, lets do it the right way!
But how will they be able to take my job if these computers have no processing power?
