It amazes me that in a supposed first world country with a justice system that was supposed to make sense, we can even have cases like this! They obviously quoted statements that don't exist, and the case seems to have no ground what so ever. The sad part is, this doesn't seem to be getting better; Politicians either are lawyers or in the lawyers pay, and citizens are too ignorant to notice what is going wrong!
This is interresting for several reasons beyond the obvious; The government is now making information available about open source, which means they know it exists. This information will also get reviewed by government agencies and could possibly lead to more open source adoption by government agencies, which would encourage more people in the population to be exposed to OSS. This also gives some air of credibility to open source, possibly the kind that suits will catch on to it and adopt OSS more.
Maybe it would be better if we tested the software more on earth and had all the bugs worked out before we sent it up. It seems like all of these problems could have been avoided if we would have just uploaded the software BEFORE we launched them and had thorough testing. If NASA would do things other than try to get pretty pictures to increase its funding, maybe something more might come out of it.
I would just like to have ONE discussion here where there is no political flaming! Is it too much to ask that we stop fighting and have a nice, nonviolent conversation?
But then again, I'm new here.
Something that I think is seriously being ignored is the fact that if people do build these so called 'nano-viruses' then we will build nano antibodies. The human race would never let such a severe danger go unchecked, even with computer viruses there is antivirus software. (Or just Linux)

Welcome our tiny bacterial martian overlords

"with much more to their lives than hardware upgrades, programming languages and pocket protectors" Lies! There cannot be anything more to life!
Maybe because there isn't enough air on mars to be blown? (E.G. Any at all)

This has to be a lie, the government would never waste our money and mislead us!
I wonder if this proves a connection between industrial pollution and virtual pollution?

How my life is fulfilled by seeing this.... HEY WAIT! That one microbe looks an aweful lot like cowboyneal...
Big deal - even if the core OS is completely secure, there are going to be programs and scripts with vulnerabilitys.
