    Please, please, tell the Europeans about this. Our media try all the time to convince us that private is the best and socialised healthcare is crap.

    People complain about our healthcare system all the time, they don't realise how worse it can be. The private corporations are taking over. We still have a solid healthcare system, but stuff like public-private contracts are rising, with disastrous financial consequences for the State, and loss of service quality. Now they're talking about giving the freedom to opt out of the public system, or choosing your private provider at the expenses of the State. If we don't stop this madness we'll be like the USA in a few years.

    I tend to think government (at least a good part of it) should be to ensure the well being of its people, and that includes equitable health care.

    Funny, I always heard Americans call us "Socialist". Europe is not socialist. Most of the ruling parties here are social-democrats, even those who call themselves "Socialist Party". And they're increasingly less Social or Democratic, since they don't give a fuck about the people they rule and only think about kissing the ass of the big money corporations.

    I also don't agree that our right wing is on the left of your left. Your Democrats equate to our moderate right-wing parties in most issues, I'll call it "the liberal right". Further to the right of this we begin to enter the mental illness territory. Which summarises what most Europeans think of your Republican party.

    Well, let's consider all the evil doings the bastard commies have committed during their miserable existence:

    1. They created surveillance societies where every citizen's steps are closely monitored the whole time.
    2. They mocked democracy to a point when no matter who you vote for, everything stays the same.
    3. They created an oligarchy that commands in the shadow using politicians as puppets. This oligarchy holds all economic power and their actions are not under public scrutiny. They give themselves exquisite perks while the masses struggle to make a living.
    4. They sold weapons and trained guerrillas in third world countries to overcome governments.
    5. When they felt some country in their circle was going rogue, they didn't hesitate to invade it, place puppet leaders or both.
    6. They destroyed the environment with their massive agriculture based on chemicals, machines and unsustainable practices, polluting industries and energy production using fossil fuels.
    7. And, last but not least, Oh My God, they invaded Afghanistan!

    Oh, those evil bastard commies!

    Energy efficient appliances will require replacement of perfectly good equipment, again costing people money.

    This is only valid if you consider the environment to be free, like it has been forever. Put a price tag on the environment and everything changes. But this is inconvenient for many powerful interests.

    This is like making the ridiculous argument that the shape of the earth is subtly changing and this is a huge disaster; have you never heard of Pangaea?

    This is bullshit. If the continental drift was accelerating like the temperatures, we'd witness major geological disasters.

    But here's the major problem: the data is being massaged. All arguments about Global Cooling/Global Warming/Climate Change are irrelevant; we discard good scientific data because it supports positions we don't like, and then we politicize the issue like crazy. Everything in this entire topic is patent bullshit and we can't have a scientific discussion about it because we're not willing to use real data.

    Of course, the environmentalists and the vast majority of the scientific community are doing this gigantic effort for decades because they're all bitter people that like to make the lives of others miserable.

    Of course, the vast majority of scientists are trying to deceive us. The oil companies are right, but they don't have enough money to fight the global coalition of evil scientists. We all know environmentalists are extremely wealthy and they will buy the scientific community to say whatever fits their evil, hidden agenda. Of course, nobody knows what's this "agenda" we're talking about but that doesn't matter. It's evil.

    The poor oil companies don't have a chance.

    I agree that you get more bang for the buck out of nuclear energy, but until the waste storage problem is handled, it's not a sustainable option.

    Your government is using the waste to make ammunition and firing them many thousands of Km away from home. This is a great way to "store" the waste elsewhere.

    I read a few years ago that they were considering using nuclear waste to make building materials to sell the 3rd World. I don't know how this went, but just the idea scares the shit out of me.
