Bladerunner. I always go back to that movie.

I hope someone corrects that post to read 138 million years ago and not 138 years ago. I don't think we just got our legs and arms in 1878.

I am downloading the firmware for my Sparc T5520 server right now. This sounds like a personal problem.

  4. But what does this mean to me? on Cable Internet Service Not Common Carrier · · Score: 1

Will this mean I will be changing ISP's (again)? TimeWarnerCable owns Roadrunner, but I use Earthlink. So this is goodbye Earthlink and hello Roadrunner (again)... Great, more overhead because of new accounts being created, paperwork generated, tech calls place, etc. This is sure to keep my broadband monthly bills nice and low.

  5. Re:Yahoo vs Google? on Yahoo Ups Mail to Match Google's Gig · · Score: 1

Yahoo! is really in beta as well. It is called oddpost.com -- Last summer yahoo! bought oddpost.com and now the oddpost team is working on a complete redesign of the yahoo! web mail. It has been very hush hush as far as I can tell. But as a user of oddpost.com mail, I can assure you that when yahoo! rolls out its new webmail interface it will knock the pants off of google's gmail.

  6. Re:Stupidest thing ever on NASA Proposes Warming Mars · · Score: 1

This entire discussion reminds me of a story I read when I was a kid from Jerry Pournell (I think.) -- the book was a collections of blue-sky accounts of what might be possible in the future. One account was the teraforming of Venus by seeding the planets cloud tops with photosynthetic bacteria. Pick the right bacteria and wait for the little buggers to comsume the atomspheric CO2 and release H2O. If we could get enough of the CO2 converted to a precipitate form the temperature should drop. I was thought that sounded like a much better idea than to try anything with Mars.

Has anyone seen the Gateway DMP-X20 20GB Jukebox Player? It looks just like the Apple iPod. I was wondering if it might be an iPod in windows clothing?

  8. Re:The thundering noise you hear... on The Average PC is Infested with Spyware · · Score: 1

ten million sysadmins -- I hope not! I may be looking for a job next year and I really don't need that kind of competition.
