  1. Atomic MPC on What Magazines Do You Read? · · Score: 1

For the last couple of years I have been reading an amazing mag called Atomic.

This magazine is desgined and written by geeks for geeks. There is no "filler" crap that gets lumped into there for the sake of filling pages. All the content is well thought out and created for people who know a fair amount about PCs and want to take their knowledge to a "higher" level.

One of the main selling points IMHO is the fact that Atmoic has one hell of a community. Its great to talk (and meet) like minded people and pursue your interests, and gain vast amounts of knowledge at the same time. And then the Atomic sponsored LANs are just amazing :)

Most of the issues the cover are about pushing your system to the max. At the moment they have a indepth article (series) on OCing the P4. As well as the famous Linux series they did (which was very well done). And my most fav of the magazine. The Hotboxes. A place where peopel can show off there highly modded beige monsters. A truly geeky magazine that is slowly gaining mainstream attention (just won a award for Austrlia's best Tech Mag). Well worth a look.

  2. Klipper on Dealing with the Unix Copy and Paste Paradigm? · · Score: 1
If you are using KDE as your GUI, then Klipper (all though somewhat annoying) is a very good tool to use.

When I create html pages using Bluefish for my internal web server; constantly cutting and pasting can be a very real nightmare. However EVERYTHING that you ctrl+c or ctrl+x shows up in Klipper (5-10 of last copied/cut items). It gets some time to get use to (always clicking on Klipper to have access to cut and copied info) but once you get the hang of it, you will find things get a whole lot easier :)

Really feel sorry for this guy (or girl). It must really suck when someone promises to fund your project, of which you earn your livley hood from; then the person just dissapears and cuts funding with no explanation (as of yet).

I have never heard of this project till today, but I would not be suprised if this is an all too often occurence in the OSS world.

Hopefully he finds a new sponser so that he can carry on. It really sucks when you put a lot of time and effort into something, then to have someone just pull the plug on you (completly out of your control) and to be then left with nothing.

    Good luck.

I really cannot beleive that this is happening. A sstte of denial? No. Just shock at the possibilitys of this draft if it makes it into quote "...'sudden death' reconciliation committee..."

But there does look like there is some hope quote "The catch is that if the Parliament still doesn't like software patents, it has to have a majority of all MEPs to put its amendments, which means that in practice they need a two-to-one or three-to-one majority in the chamber,"

Hopefully this draft gets stopped in the next round of voting. If not, this could be a very bad thing for Europe developers of OSS.

I think the generilization of this report is quite harmfull. Im a gamer. Im not fat or have abnormal violent tendicies. But having the label "Video Games Make Kids Fat, Violent" is quite misleading. My question to the "Experts" would be "Was the an actual expeperiment followed by a report? Or is this your opioin based on no actual research?" Come on guys. Get off our backs.

  11. Nice idea on Announcing the KDE Quality Team Project · · Score: 5, Interesting

Personally I think this is a very good idea. My programming skills are limited to simple BASH scripts so Im no use to most devel teams. But I do have good documentation/bug hunting skills. I do this as part of my job. So it is a good oppurtunity for those who do want to give something back to the OSS community but fall short in the programming area. Good Idea KDE.

I have no problem explaining to my neice about the differences between men and women but at a time that is apporiate. Searching for a Barbie site and then finding some naked women preforming dodgy acts is not something I want my sisters kids to see. They want to see Barbies not the process of procreation. Ill redirect the question to you. Your sitting there with your child looking for a G rated movie. You click on a link that you beleive to be related to the film when up pops a child being sexually abused. Now how do YOU explain that. "Oh that man is showing his love to this little girl" Common sense and morals prevail in this situation. Freedom of who? The person delibertly tricking children into thinking the site they are going into is going to show them pictures and information about thier favourite toy/film character and instead is bombarded with images deemed inapporiate for under 18 yrs? Or for the freedom of the child to not be subjected to those images? Call me bias but I no whose freedoms I want preserved. Those of the children.

As soon as that information leaves your computer you are no longer "anon". Like murders etc; they all have a distinct way of doing thier task. This could be a tell tale sign for law enforcment agencys to pull up on and compare with other similar past offenses. While it may be harder second time around its not impossible.
