60GB iPod Coming?
·
· Score: 1, Interesting
Almost immediately, the CF card disappeared, and it was replaced with an identical-looking hard drive with only an IDE interface (not really a CF card).
WRONG! The iPod Mini and the Creative player both use the same Hitachi drive. The drive can be set in one of three modes by the manufacturer: CF, CF/IDE, and IDE. The iPod Mini came off the assembly line in pure IDE mode only, whereas the Creative player shipped initially in CF/IDE mode, which allowed it to be used in digital cameras in CF mode. Then they got smart and fixed the drive to operate in IDE mode only, so newer Creative players will not work in digicams.
Having to click on buttons several times to active is also a symptom of running under X11. I have GIMP2 on my powerbook and it's *horrible* to work with because of the way that focus works in a mac so each time you click from window to window in the gimp you have to click once to give the window focus, and then again to activate the menu/tool/etc.
Wrong. Here on my PowerBook running OS X, I can have iChat my active application, and then click on a bookmark-toolbar menu in Safari while it is still in the background. Safari comes to the front and the menu is displayed, all in ONE click.
Let's just hope TiVo (which is, according to the article, a superior choice) survives the clones as well as Kleenex, JELLO, Aspirin, Band-Aid, Q-Tip, and Vaseline have.
Does anyone remember Escalator Brand Moving Stairs?
But then people will defend these sites, claiming something to the effect that "having an outlet for these [cannibalism & necrophilia] on the internet without having to commit the act itself is keeping me out of trouble..."
What about those who say that violent (computer) games are simply an outlet for violence, and actually reduce the number of people who go crazy and shoot people up for fun? I mean, instead of "hey I don't like the way this guy looked at me, I think I'll unleash my rifle on him", we get kids who say "I bet I could frag you good at Counterstrike."
CRN: Where do you see Linux being successful today?
TAYLOR: Definitely on the edge. You're just seeing edge services continue, such as firewall, appliances and those types of devices. Obviously, Unix migrations are happening. That's where, primarily, custom applications that people have written in-house are being moved over to Linux.
Obviously Microsoft acknowledges the power and security of Linux in 'edge services' in appliances.
So why is Microsoft making crap versions of Windows like Tablet edition and Media Center edition for these 'custom applications' already shown to be penetrated by the much-more-suited-to-it Linux?
I sure hope someone gets around to fixing it, we don't want any more Great Balls of Fire raining on everyone's parade (which could not only cause injury but also slow the US space program...)

Doesn't prebinding only change executable Application Packages?
Shouldn't the prebinding on programs only change at major OS updates or changes to the libraries they access?
Shouldn't Application Packages already be excluded from backups for the most part anyway?

Is this kernel 2.6 compiled from the Windows source code? I keep getting a general protection fault when loading explorer.exe

'Do you have a pricing problem with Windows and Office on the desktop?'
I most certainly do! What home user actually knows the price of Windows/Office and does NOT have a problem with purchasing software at that price?

Gentoo would be rated higher, but they're still waiting for the results to compile.
we'll get fragmentation between instruction sets... babelfish will translate between proper Nihon86 and broken PowerPCgrish.
