  1. Illegal here on Renewable Energy From Algae? · · Score: 1

AFAIK, here in the UK it is illegal to use anything other than government licenced fuels for vehicles. There have been people (farmers mostly) who have been prosecuted for using vegetable oil, and other types of oil on public roads. Whether they were prosecuted for using particular types of oil or just for not using the "official" fuels I'm not sure.

According to this site, the reason for the prosecutions may have been that the culprits weren't paying tax on the fuel !

In fact, these days, I would be lucky to get 40 minutes from a full charge.
I guess I need a new battery, but as its a mobile desktop replacement, and I use it for video capture and conversion, it spends a whole lot of its life plugged in to the mains anyway.

But, a nice 1.4 Ghz machine running with lower power would definitely be better.

I don't advocate doing nothing. As I said in my post, I have no problem with finding less polluting energy sources. But, to blame climate change entirely on human emissions is ridiculous. My point was that a lot of the so called reasoning behind the human caused doomsday scenario, is based on a 400 year old record of the climate. I don't like being misled in order to achieve a political end. Truth that is tainted by politics, can very often be ignored, precisely because of those politics. Lets deal with real issues, not invented ones.

1 good thing was to make sure every user has a defined email address, or alias to their username. That means I can send a good 85% of mail straight to /dev/null as most spam is sent to madeupname@domain.com

The rest of the spam is due to people leaving their addresses in plain site (on web pages etc) and not having virus free computers.

I also run MailScanner to remove viruses, before the user can get to them, but I don't use spam assassin, because thats not my problem. The users are, to a large extent, to blame for the amount of spam going through the server, (see above) and I don't see why I should deprive them of their ill-gotten gains !
My spam count in my inbox is virtually zero, the few I do get are forwarded from other servers, but are trivial to delete.
If only people would use personal certificates to identify themselves, then spam filtering would be so much easier.

Ok, we all know that the sea levels will rise, the weather will be come (even more) unpredictable, etc, etc. But every documentary I have seen on this subject, seems to use 2 different sources for its data. At first, they use data gained from antarctic ice cores that show that this has happened ("global warming") time and again over a considerable amount of time. Then suddenly, the doomsday scenario is based on the fact that the changes in the global climate have happened in the 400 or so years since records began.

How can you accept both points of view ? It is misleading to suggest that humans are the cause of global warming. I fully agree that we as a race should seek some non-polluting energy source over one that has shown to be bad for us, let alone the planet, but to use misleading information to achieve social indignation is wrong.

Global warming is a catch-phrase, being used to describe potential doom. Even if we all stopped using electricity and cars etc, then the planet would still go through immense environmental changes, as it has done since the beginning. News flash, the sahara used to be green and pleasant, and before that it was under water. Are we as humans responsible for that too ?

"In order to accept returns of Maxtor Hard Drives, you must first visit the Maxtor Website, and download the Win32 only Hard disk diagnostic software, run it on the affected machine, and post the results in the TT on Ebuyer."
Only then will they issue a RMA number.

Call me childish, but I didn't feel like doing that with a drive that had no os installed on it, let alone won't get through POST !

Eventually, after much to-ing and fro-ing on the ebuyer TT, I get them to accept that the drive was DOA and to give me a RMA number.
(I drove to another town and picked up the exact same drive and had XP running an hour later - Have never used ebuyer since. I actually had to threaten them under the trades descriptions act , UK, which states that I can return something within 14 days for any reason if it was ordered remotely.
