  1. Re:I cant believe what I am reading on Missing Link Fossil Discovered · · Score: 1

I live in Europe too, and I may have the answer for you. I first of all noticed this bit

"looking at USA one of the most technologicly advanced nations in the world, with things like NASA, Apple, MIT,....."
and I find you simply left the missing link off of the list. The missing link is, of course, G.W.Bush - "one small twit for president represents a large step backwards for mankind" - to misquote a famous American.

    Then I came on this

"and even Microsoft (though I am not sure they have evolved)"
and, if I may give you my opinion, the words "Microsoft" and "evolution" should not be included in the same discussion.

And then I came upon this

"No serius man in Europe believes in creationism, or intelligent design"
and I thought that surely you jest. Why do you exclude the many serious women and children (not to mention dogs, cats, and canaries) in Europe who have trouble to believe in creationism and/or intelligent design ? If it came to a push, you might even have the kindness to include non-serious people ( such as myself, for instance).

It's obvious if you like; I noticed this bit

"yet another ploy by Satan to delude ......"
and wondered. In fact I'm still wondering; I thought that "ploys to delude" was a patent held by an American fellow called Bush. Does Satan know that he is guilty of patent infringement ? Unless, of course, you subscribe to the interesting theory put about by another world renowned twit - O.B.Laden, to give him his name - to wit, that G.W.Bush and Satan are one and the same ! Please notice that this theory is the responsibility of the originator and nothing to do with me.

Myself, I favour the idea that we should call a twit a twit and not a bloody shovel - to misquote an expression from many years ago.

  3. Re:Becoming? on Microsoft Says Recovery From Malware Becoming Impossible · · Score: 1

Tsk, tsk - there's a bit here you haven't understood; people at Microsoft don't actually run Windows. They do their accounting on an IBM machine, and they write their software on wax tablets. The transcription from wax tablets to machines is done in darkest Africa by a mixed workforce of chimpanzees and retarded, undernourished, malaria ridden pygmies. This process reduces costs to produce (even though it introduces delays) and also explains why malware etc. has never been noticed by our friends at Microsoft. Simple when you have the explanation, isn't it ?

In passing, this also explains why our friend Bill is so interested in curing malaria. Can't have a "skilled workforce" being disseminated every rainy season, now can he ?

I can testify as to the truth of the above. I heard it from a chap at work who read the whole story on the Internet - a site called TechNet, I believe

I think we should all join together and offer a vote of thanks to Dr. Jenny - she took the time to explain it to us simply (she obviously knows that this is the only way to have us understand it). So "there is a lot more mass in the universe than they thought there was" ach zo !

I'm left wondering if all the possibilities have been considered here. After all, that is a long way for "neutrinos" to travel - more than 700 clicks. Could it be that some of them just laid down for a rest, and didn't arrive in time ? Could it be that some of them escaped ? (Careful - tinfoil hat required to handle those.) Any specimens found wandering (they are extremely small, but they can be heard crying for Doctor Jenny in their squeaky voices if you listen very, very carefully) are to be returned to the good Doctor by Fedex. Put them in a metal tobacco tin with a wisp of coton wool - for their comfort - and a small portion of your favorite cat food.

I personally thought that a neutrino was I kind of sheep - and, since I'm partial to lamb cutlets ...

I'm sorry that I've saddened you by referencing your age - it was not my intention to bring any sadness into your life with this reference - only hope.

You're probably right in your thought that darn it might be thought more polite than damn it ; there are many other pairs like this goldurn it is thought to be more socially acceptable than goddam it . I'm more with the "say what you mean and mean what you say crowd, myself" and tend to avoid imprecations of any kind as being largely a waste of effort; but to each his own. You are quite right though - darning is a means of repairing socks.

Would like to ask you to consider that the original point of this whole April Fool joke affair was changes made to attract more female visitors to /. Would you also care to acknowledge that the association with ladies often leads to an improved sex life ? If we can get that far, you might want to notice that my original post allowed for 2 possibilities:

    • the ladies might wash the editors - wouldn't do any harm, since they probably are in need, given the state of their socks
    • the editors might wash the ladies - might cheer them up

Did you ever travel to the hotter corners of the globe ? One frequently encounters a small poster "Save Water Bathe With a Friend" . If it has never been given you to try this experience, please allow me to commend it to you.

    And finally:

    "All of this analysing, huh!"
You're right of course, too much analysing can kill a joke (or anything else).

Sorry about all this, it really is the best I can manage for a full and complete explanation of this celebration of the 1st. of April. Too much analysing ain't healthy ....
