I agree with you only if Blizzard had a history of doing this. If its a trend in their behavior, then I would be worried. Otherwise, let them tell their story in their way.
Games are art too, and maybe this SCV pilot is a part of the dialog. Maybe the artist was pissed off that some black guy raped their friend. Who knows... Art is weird like that, its important to get the context from the artist and producers to even begin to understand what it all means.
what i find really sad is how lazy you are. and i mean this not as a personal attack, but as a general comment at our current collective attitude towards sources of information.
here is the basic idea: what ever happened to being a little critical about our sources of information. and along side being critical, whatever happened to being consistent. consistency has even more importance than the veracity of a source. consider a scientist conducting research based on some theory. there is nothing wrong with their methodology, and even their conclusions seem to be logical. 50 years later, the research is debunked. so badly in fact that there is a great shift. we move from so-called classical thinking, to the new-fangled spooky action at a distance school of thought. but would anyone ever consider past scientists as any less, were they wasting their time? were it not for their discipline and attitude, we wouldnt be able to get any closer to the truth. what it takes is not being lazy. actually it takes being curious.
to be fair, i am as lazy as you are. who has time to cross-check their sources of information. its so much easier to trust your senses even when you know they can lie to you. but at least remembering that our senses can lie helps to keep us on our toes. probably also helps avoid fruitless arguments and pointless fights over trivial misunderstandings.
so while the wikipedia is probably not the "best" source of "accurate" information as compared to established sources of information, how do i know that those established sources arent just as misinformed?
ideally, our need to continually re-think and create new theories based on past experience and history is the only guaranteed way of ensuring the quality of our current knowledge. but of course in practise there are several factors that degrade this process and laziness is chief among them.
That said, the results are skewed by the fact that Intel is producing chips using the 65-nanometer process, vs. AMD's 90-nanometer process. Typically, as more chips are packed onto smaller dies, performance improves dramatically. AMD is not scheduled to begin building chips on a 65-nanometer process until later this year.
and finally the really important bit:
"This is going to make AMD's life more difficult than it has been in the last two years," says analyst Nathan Brookwood, head of Insight64, a Saratoga (Calif.) consultancy. "If AMD can respond to this within a relevant time frame, the customers it has recently won may stick with it. If it can't respond with something that can provide the same level of performance and excitement, it could be very problematic."
besides intel's new server chip, what is really going on is summarized here:
"NOT JUST ABOUT THE CHIP." In negotiations with big-name customers, Intel also appears prepared to make price concessions to win more system designs than AMD. That sets the stage for what could turn into an all-out price war. "These chips tend to have high price tags and high margins," says Mercury's McCarron. "This is going to change the pricing dynamics. We simply haven't seen server chips sold below a few hundred dollars a unit, but now we're seeing them sold at less than $150. It's a different world than it was a few years ago."
while i am trying to help avoid any fanboyism that might follow, the above three paragraphs summarize the entire article quite nicely. enjoy.
Let me clarify though: according to the article it looks like the guy was in fact trespassing, at which point he was already in the wrong, EVEN IF the wifi node was unsecured. Its the simple fact that he was told at least once to stop and go away that gives them the authority to at least detain him.
But I am not a lawyer and I do not know much about property law, so I could be wrong with my interpretation.
This is probably the best argument I've read for using open wifi nodes. And reading a book from the store lighting is a really nice analogy.
So to put it plainly, if the store owner had asked you, the reader of the book, to leave the store front because she didn't want people loitering, and you, the reader of the book, kept coming back, one can easily appareciate her need to call the cops. First of all, this unfortunately happens to the homeless all the time. So her calling the cops isn't actually such an unusual action even if the guy is a sex offender.
What would be interesting, is whether this guy gets charges for having stolen the "open" wifi access. At that point, I would have to call into question whether or not it is possible to "steal" light from a store front so that one can read a book.
if this is their definition of episodic, then they might as well make each episode even longer. i'm not that great a player, but i finished hl2:ep1 a little too quick for my taste. personally i barely had time to really get into the game before i realized that it was already done.
anyways, i guess its back to looking for some good mods to pass the time. or maybe its time to switch to a new engine entirely....i wonder if there is a oldschool command and conquer mod for CnC:Generals. that would be fun...bah..this long waiting period makes me wonder why i even spent the money in the first place.
still i would be interested to know what fields the majority of women really enjoy and then to break those down a little bit to find any structural differences. clearly content in each field is going to be different....but in programming an important skill is problem solving in terms of being able to properly define a problem, then to design an effective (preferably elegant) solution and finally to implement/execute this solution. things to note when programming though are the scope and scale of the problems you deal with. when you drive a car you are dealing with the road, the signs, the other cars, and the people in the car (sometimes giving you directions). each one of those things is a problem and the process of paying attention to each is an act of problem solving but at a much different scale than the nitty-gritty systems programming level.
it is my belief that some people are just more inclined to deal with the smaller or more abstract things. others tend to prefer the big picture, and the more concrete. so maybe the reason the majority of women do not go into CS is that 1) they might prefer the big picture or 2) CS is taught with a heavy bias towards smaller and more abstract which is a turn off for people that relate better to the bigger picture.
if that's the case, then maybe CS should be taught as just another kind of problem solving skill akin to paying attention to the road when driving. maybe the reason people can learn to drive quicker than they can learn to code is that they relate quicker to the objects involved in driving a car...
There might be a decline in female CS majors, but where are they going?
Are they going into other fields of study that share traits and skills with CS? or not?
Funny enough, in a linguistics class, my syntax prof gave us this rumor, that apparently women that knit or sow or engage tasks involving repetitive hand-eye coordination are not only also awesome at syntax, morphology, and phonology (the parts of linguistics that are the most rule based) but they make really great programmers. or at least that there is a strong correlation. between the two sets of activities (that of being a competent programmer and that of being a knitter).
no offense but that's where grassroots and open source fill the void. research for research and all the idiosyncrasies you learned to love about your fellow man;)
why not release linux binaries? you sell the game as a windows game, but then distribute linux binaries from your website. i think that's what id does. and as the linux drivers get better than they already are, i bet you see more users turning to linux and game sales continuing to increase.
but you are right. at this point in the game id can release linux binaries and continue to make mucha profito.
isn't much better than the argument you never understood. but for one, there are games for pc that will never make it to game machines. and in some cases the pc version of a game is much better than anything the game machines can do. the only differences worth mentioning now are that game machines might start providing exclusive content.
i agree with you about apple not caring about the gaming market, but i honestly do not know who apple or ms or any other big corp cares about. because each one fails for me. they dont care about me...and now i cry about it. sometimes i think even the penguin doesn't care about me so i have to keep spending money to get answers...that sucks
i guess it adds up to apple hardware being kinda expensive. its one thing to be a gamer with a pc. you can do that on a budget. get a doom3 box for $1000 or less. can't really say the same for apple.
what i dont understand is why linux doesnt have more recent games for it. drivers are getting better and better every day even tho there are still issues. some of them pretty serious tho, but that just reminds me of DOS.
but bah. maybe its just simply MS strategy. they want you to dual boot if you want access to the goodies. and you gotta pay for the access. its just sad how much of a pity its becoming. i lost my interest connection for a couple weeks, and i couldnt play half life 2. no way to authenticate the game. the offline cache must have been old or something.
apple doesnt need games to be popular. in fact games might taint the apple user experience. there is something punkish about pc gamers that maybe apple does not want associated with their gamers. who knows. i just wish 'desktop' linux would hurry up its evolution...its only going to become more and more like BeOS before it finally breaks out of its shell. i just hope it gets there sooner rather than later.
i am happy that i can play doom3 in linux. no need to dual boot there. i just wish i could also play guildwars, dawn of war, half life 2, and warcraft 3. w/o having to use wine or one of its derivatives. doom3 is slow enough as it is i could never play that game thru wine. but maybe its because of my drivers...and now we return to the popularity thing. linux is popular. where's are the games? popularity is not the only factor nor is it the most important factor to consider when looking to develop games for macosx or linux...
ps. this goes to all developers. you must remember the old days of DOS. and you still developped crazy games to run on it. linux is like that..remember what it felt like? getting a game out and knowing that anyone that had some form of DOS could potentially run it...linux is like that only now you have alsa and opengl extensions and as fast as you can get input system. what else do you need?
one way to counter this 'podcast' label would be to start giving it a new name such as wavecast or beamcast or something else. and everytime some one uses podcast incorrectly then quietly correct them without raising any extra conflict and proceed with the conversation.
if they dont understand, create a framework for agreement by pointing out the similarities in the two definitions. once this framework is established proceed by pointing out the differences but follow that with an example of the new label's use and carry on as if nothing wrong had happened. ignore their apparent confusion and act as if they will eventually get it. do not get ruffled up. keep your voice low and steady so they can feel the authority in your voice.
he could provide wireless or even wired access for about half the price you got at regular internet cafes. or you get free access with a purchase where access was limited to 1-2hrs where the customer could extend that if the coffee agents were nice:)
but as it turns out it is better to provide free yet limited access for the entire street provided by the city. with store owners giving out temporary yet faster and longer connections with purchase. the hard part is getting the city to provide free access to an entire street.
you need to remember to that certain facts like those we expect from an encyclopedia are those being returned as answers. if you ask for the size of gwb's britney's breasts i doubt it would give you an answer. but it will link you to a few sites that might have relevant information
i would add that on top of multiple sources, they should also be as dissimilar as possible. sometimes you can get two sources that are just regurgitating information they have gleaned from the same source.
or at least a web portal to all those social networks. one sign in all your social network stuff aggregated on one site. you could add filters to re-organize the information on-slaught.
sounds interesting if you ask me. if you start getting the servers hosting these social networks to talk to themselves for example sharing database information throw a little google on there and you can start creating links with people based on news or events that you find mutually interesting. all the chatter related to an interest could be immediately organized in a way to reflect new interpretations about that interest at a given period in time. the information collected from this can then be fed into an AI...
unless imo Luxpro can show that "Shuffle" is just a label for a feature much like if they called their player an FM radio with mp3 playing and voice recording capabilities.
Adam: And Eh just for people that who are going to listen to the rest of the show, its the end of the show!
I agree with you only if Blizzard had a history of doing this. If its a trend in their behavior, then I would be worried. Otherwise, let them tell their story in their way.

thanks for reminding me. i keep forgetting that firefox is a ui frontend amd gecko is a rendering backend.
new firefox still doesn't pass the acid2 test.
but i do like the built in spell check feature!

im not very good at programming. but apart from using fgets which gcc says is dangerous...what is the nastiness in question here?
then you dont count ;)

actually you're right that's a little silly.
speak too soon and feel the wrath: http://gnomebaker.sourceforge.net/. just tried it...not bad and this is great considering the Nero Linux thing :)
where exactly does one get GNOME Baker. Since peeking at the GNOME Journal doesn't seem to give any links or source...

good stuff. and to give us some perspective, where does NeoOffice stand feature-wise in relation to OO v2?
