    Or is it fast already? Does the hardware just decrease the exponent with one when it sees that the value to multiply x with is 0.5? Otherwise, it sounds like that's something you would want to do manually, right?

    I can see how technology can fail (as in "the gun doesn't shoot when I pull the trigger") and be jammed (as in "the gun doesn't shoot when I pull the trigger because someon did something to it"), but what does it mean for power to fail? Sounds fuzzy. And we don't like fuzzy, do we? ;-)

    It takes a lot longer than 4 seconds for a Slashdot story to load, particularly with the new AJAXy discussion system. I usually open up several things at a time in different tabs, which decreases the average loading time since I can read one thing while another loads. What browser were these people using?
    I'm all with you. Actually, I was just about to post a comment mentioning Slashdot load time and the advantage of tabs -- then I saw yours. Take this as an informal up-moderation. (I have no mod points.)

    I wonder if any of the spider-based web archiving sites caught it in time.
    Google seems to have indexed 290 pages (mostly PDFs) from the server. I don't know how to get them in full text, though. Please let us know how, the one who finds out.
