It's ridiculous:
If they made file-swapping software illegal, that would mean that:
- Windows Explorer is illegal, since you can swap files with it
- ANY ftp client is illegal
- Firefox/Internet explorer is illegal, because it technically has the capability to swap.html files
I dont get it how people can demand things as "fuzzy" as this. Where do you draw the line?
I can honestly say I have _never_ seen a MMORPG which features time travel; i.e. somehow be able to affect what other people have done, and what they are going to do. It sounds insane, but I am sure with enough hardcore programming it could be done. Think of the entertainment possibilities it can provide; i.e. stealing a treasure "before" someone else does (or something like that)
I am a professional software developer, and I would like to argue that the top 5 most impportant things about good software is (in order of preference, most preferencial first):
1. Stability
2. Robustness and speed
3. Sufficient comments (one comment every 3 lines)
4. Passing large objects as constant references and not by value
5. Viewing your code in assembler afterwards and using a profiler to look for bottlenecks
Of course, the above mentioned things are not enough, but I believe it is a good place to start.
Any other ideas?
I feel someone should offer a nice prize for creating an efficient and clean way of producing hydrogen for fuel cell technology. Fuel cells already exist, but the cost, pollution and work involved in producing the hyrdogen required to run a fuel cell is prohibitive. If cheap and clean hydrogen production was achieved, we would be able to stop burning fossil fuels, the world would be a cleaner place, and stuff like flying cars could very well become a reality due to the sheer amount of power fuel cells can produce.
System Shock was absolutely excellent; I'm wondering if the proposed sequel will live up to the high standard set by the former. Generally, sequels don't seem to hit the high level of enjoyment as originals; it is interesting to note however that Half-Life 2 is very good, and has a lot of the same gameplay elements as Half-Life (another game I worship, incedently).
Doom 3 was a sequel to Doom1 (imho) because the engines for all *Doom* games was based on the same engine. And Doom 3 is epic (and that may be an understatement.)
What I am saying is, in essence, that SS2 could very well be brilliant as well; but don't be too shocked if it doesn't have as drastic an impact as its predecessor.
The solution is simple; and it applies to everyone/everything.
If an inspector/cop/whatever comes to your premises to look for pirated music/apps/whatever, and you know you have a lot of it and your gonna be someones bitch in jail, the most effective thing to do would be *drumroll* KILL HIM! Why? Simple... You'll get a lighter sentance.
Perfect! Sounds like the kinda job I wanna do.
Just sit around an play games all day long.
I'd give an arm to do that. Oh crap; if I did, i wouldnt be able to play anymore.
Lameness aside, I'd still like to know who wins; also, I'd like to see pics of the championship. Anyone got?
Really, patents are getting old.
Everyone is patenting things! I feel that stopping other people from improving upon things by patenting them stifles research and drastically slows any improvement or technological forwarding of humanity in general.
There should be a GPL-like patent - i.e. almost like an anti-patent. Just to screw those people who want to patent something, the GPL-patent should "patent" things under the name of the entire human population.
How's that?:)
This whole WOMD thing is getting old. Why don't people rather worry about more pertinent things, such as global warming, or feeding the millions of hungry people in Africa?
I believe this "weapons of mass destruction" thing is WAY overrated, and mostly a load of crap.
ALSO, I find it interseting how only the USA is allowed to have a nuclear arsenal. Why should we trust them, of all people?
If I was American, I would vote for Kerry; the only reason for this is I wouldnt be voting for Bush.
It saddens me that Microsoft even tries to justify bitter, impersonal attacks every time someone or something does anything they dont like nor want. Their behaviour could be taken in parallel to how your unfriendly neighbourhood rottweiler barks incessantly when someone outside of the family circle walks by minding his own business. I dont believe Microsoft is under any threat, niether from Lindows nor Mike Rowe Soft for that matter. In fact, Microsoft knows the computing world's end users are made up of 99 percent Windows junkies. They are capitalising on these sheep-like peoples' relative incompetence by making absolutely certain that no computers in computer stores have any operating system other than Windows installed. In fact, your average office secratary and the vast majroity of end users rarely know the difference between an operating system and the computer itself. Microsoft is trying very hard to ensure that when consumers see computers for sale that there is Windows on it, 100 percent of the time. Picture it in this sense: When last have you been into a computer store and seen a Linux/Unix-based operating system? If it's free, why arent people using them? Microsoft tries to squash anything that poses even a minor threat by throwing millions of dollars at the problem.
Microsoft's complaints, as usual, hone of blaitant unfounded monopolism, and this should not be allowed by any government. I vote in favour of Lindows and Mike Rowe Soft; they dont deserve these unfair attacks from Microsoft. Monopolism does not stimulate an economical growth whatsoever. I'd bet Microsoft couldnt care less about that minor detail.

Maybe if you had a REALLY REALLY big spring ...

If only I could play through my work firewall.
If there were only a html proxy feature or something of that nature. Or is there already?

My apologies; I meant SS3 and not SS2 as posted in the parent article.

How about patenting the smell of a patent application? That way, I can sue when somebody wants to apply for one ...
Just a thought...
