    no, that shouldn't make a difference.

    xesia.com works for me in firefox 1.5.0.1 and lynx 2.8.4 on gentoo, after disabling cookies in both browsers.

    hmm, what browser are you using? xesia.com is completely different to fone-me.com in all browsers ive tested on.

    the ssl cert is a problem, because ive not setup xesia.com for ssl. there are no links to https://www.xesia.com/ but i shall fix my vhosts so that it just doesn't work, rather than give an invalid cert warning.

    Thats true, sometimes, if i'm having problems with an 'unfixable' bug, I get my non-programmer girlfriend to read through my code, she understands the basic, like every ( should have a ), every { should have a }, a { is not the same as a (., almost every line should end with a ; (presuming most lines have that), if she makes a mistake and thinks and if (a = b) { should have a ;, its no big deal.

    She finds a fair few bugs that way. Like i said, she's not a programmer, far from it.

    To be fair, there are plenty of english meals that dont have chips. eg:

    fish and mushy peas (thats not that bad)
    mushy pea butties (that cant be that bad)
    meat pie butty (thats a bad one)

    there are plenty more, but bacon, eggs and black pudding doesn't really highlight my point.

    name based virtual hosts, ssl on every page (if http, redirect), fone-me.com - let me know which browser your having problems with.

    I took the A+ exam, through my college, as a free extra to the course I was doing. It was 2003 (maybe even 04?) and it didn't even include questions on Windows XP.

    The questions were incredibly easy.

    ah ha! i have a cunning plan:

    set up apache, to have it serve a transparent gif/png, thats 1px square

    rewriterule /.* /transparent.png

    and then youve got adblock, in opera/ie/seamonkey/konqueror/etc

    i might setup a server to do that, sometime, for everybody to use.

    1: I agree, although ive not had any problems running amd64 sarge on a production webserver

    2: Security patches aren't mirrorred because they wont always be up to date.

    3/4: It would be nice if stable stayed stable for as long as it does, but occasionally added new packages (eg php5 alongside php4, mysql5 alongside mysql4, apache2.2, etc)

    4: Give me Xen!

    i used a script i found once, that downloaded and installed IE 5,5.5 and 6, and installed them with wine, thing is, ie6 didn't render anything like what the windows pc did next to me, and ie 5 and ie 5.5 didn't run for me.

    ah well.

    xmlhttprequest is a javascript object that was implemented as an activex control. unfortunately, since ms did-away-with/never-had netscape compatible plugins, ie's plugins all have to be activex.

    they couldn't build flash or acrobat into ie, as theyre built by different companies

    If by "it still uses a 20 year old...method of talking with the video card", you mean openGL, then yes, its first incarnation is quite old, but by that standard DirectX is probably 10 years old by now.

    Im in the process of adding some Ajaxy goodness to fone-me.com, this to give the users instant mail notifications works fine (although i should point out that the number 1 on line 20 is printed by a php script)

    This works fine in IE6,IE7,Opera,Firefox,Konqueror, although i'm going to reduce the interval (every 5 seconds is very excessive)
