Seriously, there are forums to discuss TV shows. This is just as bad as the morning radio jocks talking about the Bachelor or whatever. Next topic please.
Longer than that. I installed one for a very weathly investor back in November 03. It was for his wife to check her email and organize digital pics. Sheesh.

Management needs to recall that accounting, HR, and Marketing are not profit centers. Just like IT, these groups contribute to the "business" and facilitate transactions to take place. Everyone plays a part and everyone must assist the other. If a business is to suceed, the "IT vs. the rest of them" mentality must disappear.
While this response may be easier on the user's feelings, it wastes time. Something that few of us in IT have the luxury of wasting. A blend of the above mentioned posts would be more effective and in all parties best interests.
Another approach to this is something I have shown my users how to do in a.pdf file that is emailed to all new users at account creation time. As part of policy, any help desk request should include an error message screen capture when possible. People love it when you show them the magic ALT-Print Screen and paste into text editor trick. With this important bit of info, they can email it to me with a description of what was going on at the time of the error and the problem they encountered. Makes my life easier and I don't have to be a detective to reconstuct the problem.
True, many people can't get other forms of internet connectivity. However, for a business satellite is typically not worth the expense.
The info I used was based on personal experience in setting up a satellite internet solution for a client about 3 years ago. I can't remember the name the service was through, but I know it was using Hughes satellites.
I set up one site and found that the connection was sporadic at best. After some discussion, we decided not to install the other 2 sites that the client had purchased $2000+ hardware for. This was based on factoring in the cost of my time and the installers time to troubleshoot problems, after which ISDN turned out to be cheaper monthly, and cheap hardware was easy to find on eBay.
In the end, the client felt better knowing that packets only had to travel 5 miles or so to the local CO rather than thousands. And I could tell them with a straight face that there connection would could be relied upon.
Um, ever used satellite internet? How's 128K down and 64k up sound to you? After you purchase your $1000 bi-directional dish and have it installed, and pay $100/mo for service, it would be cheaper to have an ISDN or Frame relay ran to your home or business. I'll pass.
I have been using VMWare for almost a year now with a removable 160GB harddrive. I load all my virtual machines onto the drive and have VMWare loaded on my laptop and desktop. Simply plug the HD into the PC of your choice and load VMWare. Voila! Any OS I choose, with a consistent configuration. Imagine when USB key drives are large enough for this and the workstation or laptop becomes a terminal again. Who needs internet access or terminal services to use your computer anywhere?
I had the same experience when I decided to go freelance and get some new equipment for my home office. After trying to find some deals, I decided on a laser printer at BB. After justifying that their pain in the ass mail-in rebate was worth it, I got to the counter where the 17 year old girl aggressively proceeded to tell me in her best car-salesperson tone "If you don't get the extended warranty, you'll be sorry WHEN this breaks." I told her that if it was such a piece of shit then she could keep it and I didn't want it anyway. I went down the street to Office Depot and got it there with no hassle. To hell with Best Buy.
However, 70 bucks seems kind of steep for that thing. I'm sure you could make one with all or most of its functions and that looked as good for a lot less.
$70 bucks is kinda steep? And $300-$500 bucks for a digital music player that has the same features of cheaper devices isn't? I don't know about you, but if someone can afford to dish out that kind of cash for a toy, then $70 bucks for a charger that looks nice and works well isn't too much to ask. Oh and if that doesn't justify it, how about supply and demand?

www.goolge.com = www.verisign.com. Huh? Or even worse, www.reallynastygirls.com = www.verisign.com !! Oh the horror!
I had a boss who said "Look annoyed, people will think you're busy." Then we'd go in the back and drink beer. Hehe.
That's a retarded way to spend your life. There's always another job out there.
Thank you!! Gawd, my eyes were killing me.
Dude! You got a dell! You're so L33t!
