    Given that I accept your premise that the private sector are doing it for the money, why do you ask me to accept your first statement?

    Would not all these things be ways of making even more money? So why should we think that they are not being carried out?

    Ya did. "See, Longhorn has multiple tiers of visual operation. If you can't handle the effects, it scales back to a lesser tier, going all the way down to an unaccelerated 2D inteface like that of Windows 2000. Aero is the top tier and is supposed to be, according to them, "photorealistic" and will be a new interface for Windows taking advantage of 3D acceleration."

    Going "all the way down" to what we have now, versus "photorealistic". Photorealistic implies "eye candy". What increased functionality does it have?

    They did not spend millions of dollars to develop IE. They rebadged Mosaic. IIRC they also double-crossed the creators of Mosaic by promising them a royalty for every copy of IE that they SOLD!

    I look at the Talkbacks submitted by other readers when I go to Linux Today. If they say a story is crap then thats good enough for me, and I do not visit the referred site.

    That is not the crux of the matter. SCOG distribute NMAP with their products for a reason, it increases their usability, without NMAP their core products have reduced functionality. Another thing that will hurt SCOG is "We have also stopped supporting the OpenServer and UNIXWare platforms."
