The problem is most people who also use winxp/etc are on dialup (probably unlike most people here). I don't know about the rest of you but, when I was on dialup, updating my box running winxp was such a hassle i never did it (and i never got worms either because I was never online for long enough). As more and more people subscribe to high speed internet solutions we will see more automated patching, etc because people will be online most of the time, ms/winxp will start making this the default windows update action. But as for now this isn't the case.

What most people here don't understand is that the majority of americans barely even know how to use a computer, and could care less about patching or updating when all they do is dial up and look at email for about 15mins and then disconnect.

most of the world don't even have computers or never have even seen one. They don't even have enough to eat and could care less.

It's called the Pauli Exclusion Principle (not entanglement), no two electrons can have the same quantum state (all electrons have different quantum states). The last quantum state identifier for an electron is spin and it can be +1/2 or -1/2. If it becomes possible to control & read the spin of an electron one can create the ultimate quantum computer which bases 1/0's on the spin of an electron (+1/2 & -1/2).

  24. Re:Philosophical v. practical origins of IP law on Is IP Property? · · Score: 1

Basically, the origins of IP law were a method for the King to tax producers, who then could make exclusive money on their goods/products.
So in today's terms the government (king) taxes the people/consumers (alot for buying) and the producers (alot less for employeeing and producing).
So the more stringent IP laws we have, the more money corporations/government (mainly those who control it ..unfortunately the percentage of people who actually vote in elections does not constitute the majority of people and thus the government is becoming less and less by the people and of the people) earn.
Thus making it easier to enforce more draconian and assanine laws to control my rights.
