    Hold on a second!!

Google has a Wireless network for free...... and loads of dark fiber.

Whats to stop them connecting the two, and giving everyone free wireless via their OWN google web. Yes i fear the day when the web runs via one source (in this case google) but at least it will be a source whom generally gets things right and fair.

That or we will end up with "binded" lines where people upstream run programs to allow us to find the fastest route to said host.

Think of peer to peer style, with dns's run by each user. Self updating and authicating. Some people would run sites as gateways to other networks from say, Google net to msnWeb, and in return they would have some ad's on a page which appears "Please wait while you are transfered to xxx, if you wish click the ad as you wait, ad will be opened in a new window....".

Maybe im a crazy fool, but its them prosing a monolopy on the internet.

We are looking at how apple has come from computer wiz guys to mp3 playing world takeover via ipods. I personally hate apples computers, and doubt ill ever buy an ipod either (seen WAY too many 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen ones go wonky). Eitherway i still dont see where this case is coming from and i hope it drops.

On the other hand, i thought of a company whom i respect and like : Google. Now they came along, and created a market in web search engines, alls fair so far. But if Microsoft, Yahoo, and everyone else running a search engine were to one day give up. It would leave google as the "top dog" of all search engines, infact, it would be the ONLY search engine.

    Still with me?

Then suddenly, someone realises, google dont just have a search engine.... nope, they have a desktop search client, a email client, a chat client.... OMG its a huge monopoly, quick, bring the anti-trust laws against them, they have built this huge monopoly and no one else can get in. (When the fact is everyone else choose to drop out as it wasn't worth the hassle).

Creative have been creating mp3 players for a long time, yet apple created the "hit" one. If creative (and everyone else) were to stop creating mp3 players, would that be apples own created monopoly?

How can anyone be expected to get something working in linux when it doesn't even work properly in windows? This has gravely tarnished the amazement i had for belkins cheap, but stuff that works (were they formally Q-tec? or did Q-tec just go bust?)

The reason i saw 5 of these usb keys? I "help out" with the wireless in our student accomadiation, one of the 3 computer shops in our city center only stocks this as their 54G answer (however they do have others if you "order" but their prices are overhyped anyway).

I second this, i met the same resistance when in college (highschool to you kids in the u.s.). At the time we had a lecturer, who wasn't only cocky (which is bad enough) but so sure of him self in every field, although he knew nothing about computers. (It was a multimedia course).

To make matters worse, he didn't even buy the mac he used in college, he made them pay for that as part of his "materials". Eitherway, we had a room full of windows pcs, and a room of macs. Both were plagued by problems, but due to some nice *(supprisingly) network monitoring, vlans, etc by the college, most of the time the problems were contained.

To put a spin on things, i informed the lecturer that the windows pc's were going to suffer due to the fact they had high power gfx cards (which we would use for rendering) and only 300w psus. The guy decided from this point on that i was a know it all, and that anything i said would automagicly be wrong.

After all teh various fun with computers, we started getting the dreaded "hostname or ip exists on network" problems, where people had acidently, or deliberlty changed their IPs so that another machine ended up being kicked off the network when it rebooted.
I was the lucky guy on the course, i got to have the printer connected to my machine! (Scarcasim!!!) One day i got the dreaded message, but knowing what caused it, i checked my hostname and found another pc on the network sharing it. So i changed the hostname and ip of my machine and hey presto, my internet access (*which i DID need for this kind of work) once again worked.
After a little while people had to print out work and it failed over and over, due to the ip and hostname of hte printer server (my machine) being changed... the whole class was accused of "Passwording the printer" which is something im still not sure you can do i windows without creating new users etc.

However, this was the extent of the damage that was ever done on windows machines.... With the macs? well, they wuold blow up, lose work, mess us around, not have the same fuctions we used in windows (In the same programs... photoshop, illustrator, lightwave...)
