It was featured in a mag i saw and basicly said that it would "notice" if it was a copied disk....
You could play the game for awhile then "strange" things would start to happen. The example they gave was a pool game where the gravity would get lower and lower so slowly the balls would just float off the table....
did anyone see this actually come to light? Did i just imagine it?
(About 25% of the CCTV owners complied with the law and turned them over.) The result isn't too bad."
Erm, 75% failure to commit to a act specified by a law is pretty damn bad if you ask me.
Also the BBC did something along these lines where they asked for the videos, I think they got like 50% back, some claimed there was no record (i.e. they weren't actually recording) and others stated various security clauses.
Oh, and no I haven't read any other replies, I maybe redundant -_-
Maybe the idea is they can move to the most secure location.... What if the US suddenly goes under marshall law? What if your hosting inte China and they just outlawed the web? They can simply "float" away...
You dont choose a project for a language, but a language for a project.
Heyho I didn't read the artical but if i've learnt anything (hahah like hell i have), then its planning is key. Plan your project and find a language that works, not the other way around.
Ok most of my sources are tv shows where the police are followed and seen to work, but i've seen enough different shows to notice the idea is
1. you may take the beatherliser test 2. if you decide not you, then you are over the limit and placed under arrest, taken to the station where you are given a (more acuturate) blood test and then if you fail this, your taken to court etc.
You dont get taken to court for not taking a beatherliser, however, if you become abusive or whatever, then its restricting the right of justice or something simular. Obstructing the law... etc
The "Good" student will still turn up as they wish to interact with the lecturer, ask questions etc. They will download the podcast as a memory tool and use it to just "check" on anything they missed...
The "Bad" students still WONT turn up to lectures, they never did in the first place, and they will download these pod casts, and not learn anything.
The "other" students wont turn up to lectures, they never have, but they have never needed to, they already know the infomation and are going though the paces to get a peice of paper to prove it, they may download the pod cast, but it doensn't really matter when they listen to it, as its just going to tell them what they already know.
Btw im in the "other" section, after lectures being late, not speaking english, not turning up at all, not knowing wtf they are doing, i've ceased going to lectures except for two or three subjects where i get on well with the lecturer. This i dont waste hours of my day walking into university (college for you us kids) only to find the lecture is cancled/dead/blown up. I revise from books and the internet, and so far i've had some of the best rates i've ever had (~65% instead of the 40%~ i used to get in schools.)
How are they planning to enforce this on existing setups? Oh wait... they can't!
Shame....
I could dance around about how im running linux etc, but the fact of the matter is even people running windows XP can avoid this, by : Yes thats right, NOT patching. I mean how do they expect to force anything on anyone using a computer?
One day they might learn, but it seems it will be no time soon...:/
HP moves all nationwide offices to india, any employees who refuse to move are out of a job without servernce pay....
Could they do that, and if they can't, can they move them into offices? I guess its a contract thing, something for me to look out for if i ever telecommute..
Are these going to just look like those "Collection of 5 billion arcade games for your PC..." which are infact about 100 copies of the same game, which are freely downloadable, but now enclosed with a special spyware packaging and nice cost attached?
If they aren't, im wondering how they are going to manage to differienciate between the two. I mean, do these indie games offer working support?
I've cured my own eczema enough that it doesn't bother me for about 10months out of 12. How? Its a selection of things, but the worse problem for mine was when the air was humid it would go mental.
Also im alerigic to ALOT of shampoos, conditoners and clothes treatment stuff.
Problem is the world doesn't have any time on its hands to find out what causes the problems, so it never knows WHY it has this problem. If you want to stop your excema do as i did, keep an diary and think carefully of what you've eaten, done, where you have been, what your wearing, when were those clothes last washed?
I find the longer i leave my jeans unwashed, the less problems they cause me!. Why this is im not sure but it works fine, i just spray them down with some Kleezne stuff to make them smell normal (not that they need it really). Nylon causes me no end of problems due to my skin sweating, causing it to get worse.
Dont RUB your skin dry, pat it instead or getting a toweled dressing gown and wear that and just let your body air dry, its far nicer on your skin.
Anyone whos been playing with the newest kernels might of noticed that the option to compile drivers not expected to compile cleanly has been removed from the kernel
This is from memory, hehe i think thats hte right option.
A friend and I noticed this and at first thought it was a bug in the kernel (2.6.16?) but appently linus has "hidden" it so that only the devs can use it as he belives they need cleaning up more.
Lots of websites already do this, why bog your self down with something that has already been done? Unless its for some kind of research project for university/college of course.
Open source solutions which do the same? Amarok has a "lyrics" tab which brings up the lyrics to the playing song, i think they are pulled from wikipedia but im not sure.
Also musicbrainz has a huge database of music too, this is why they are seemingly linked in amarok.
So basicly your not onto a winner with this unless your going to offer something all the hundreds of others fail to offer.
Amarok, wikipedia and musicbrainz are all open source.
Im not sure however, how all of these cope with non-english alphabets, which is something lots of people tend to bring up.
UKism here but football is exactly the same. For anyone from the U.S. you might as well stop reading right now as i doubt this will make any sense.
"Does anyone know any manchester United supporters from Manchester?"
The fact is people will support whom ever ends up being glorious. In most of these films the girls are against impossible odds, so the men support the "evil henchman/manic killer/giant monster of death" and why?
Well lets get really "medievil"..... Cave men... they are fighting right? Big clans.... Your not going to support the losers are you? Death to the losers.
Anyone whom supports something that loses ends up dying along with it, its built into our genes. The reason the women dont do the same? Well they were not the hunters appently.
Well it would be nice if nvidia and ati opened the drivers....
Linux must expand to succeed. This is a fact, at the moment it is still very much a small percentage of what windows is (At least in desktop form, and as we have mostly headless servers, this is what we are really talking about, linux on the desktop.)
The FSF have their ideals, and the GPL attempts to enforce them. However, at the end of the day, its the user who has to put with with the "nv" driver instead of nvidia's own nice driver. Its the end user whom has to compile it all together to work.
Linux NEEDS to work, out of the box, and work well. Now either the FSF have to realise this, and allow the drivers to be built in OR someone needs to come up with a cureall solution which fixes this problem. Either way, until that point, adverage joe isn't going to use linux and understand how to do all his driver installs and understand why the nvidia driver isn't just "working".
I love linux, i use gentoo and i think its awesome. I also would love to spread linux to my friends and family, but many things hold me back, its this kidn of thing which causes problems.
Until linux has the "plug and play" power of windows (yes windows is bad but it has somethings right), then we can't see linux taking on windows in the desktop scene anytime soon.
Here in the uk for radio we have a lience where the radio station can play XXX songs from YYY record lables, and then the artist are paid royalities (at least im guessing thats how it works.).
Why can't something like this apply to tv channels? They pay their money and then they can broastcast the shows they have rights to whenever they like. Also this means their customers can view what ever shows when they like.
I mean, we could just record it on vhs and swap tapes...
S/he will hopefully be looking forward to this too!
s/he comes with a new pair of eyes, wide and amazed by all that stands before them. Make sure you dont "ignore" them and they will work hard for you. Just because they are less experinced doesn't mean they will work any less hard. Hell, they will hopefully work harder because they know they have a chance of producing a better project due to having someone with better skills.
I know im currently looking to do a java project, outside of uni, with a small team, so hopefully i can actually produce something which works. Currently i produce stuff that doesn't work, because for uni i can still pass with just that!:-/
Overclock em and hope the house burns down...
Sounds like a great plan to me ;)

surely by pirating they ARE stopping in putting up with the crap?
Problem is instead of companys activly seaking to please the customer, they give us the option of put up or shut up.

So.... you've got some paper which the ink disappers after some time....
Im sure i just saw that in the joke shop for $2! and your charging me HOW much?
The "Good" student will still turn up as they wish to interact with the lecturer, ask questions etc. They will download the podcast as a memory tool and use it to just "check" on anything they missed...

So.... this will change nothing. Enjoy
Is there any worry of turning your box into a brick when doing this?
I.E. is it firmware based and can people mess it up? I would like to know (just out of curiosity) how they are maanging this...
Yet another reason to never upgrade....
:/
How are they planning to enforce this on existing setups? Oh wait... they can't!

Modern dermatology cannot cure eczema.

:/
yes hes the scientist and not the monster, and no i dont know how to spell check
SO its going to stop lots of programs which spread....
Firstly it will be down goes youtube, myspace, and all the other sites powered by lots of people visiting them.
Then stuff like msn will start getting blocked (we can only hope?) i mean, will it block msn it if has the stupid smiley central stuff installed?

I nearly just said that the FSF needs linux for its own existance. Then i realised how much of a stupid st atement this would of been....
I wonder whos graphics drivers the FSF's computers run (thats if they even run linux?)
Well it would be nice if nvidia and ati opened the drivers....

Crap games:
Sequels:
Stupidly expensive Consoles...
Handhelds which are instantly outdated...
PC's which are cheaper than said console, do alot more than said console, and even cost less than said console.
Hum... i wonder why kids today play less games.
