  1. Someone please explain this to me. on Mozilla 1.7 Released · · Score: 0, Redundant

I run a dualboot WinXP / FC1 at work and use IE and Firefox .8 in XP and Firefox .8 in my FC.
Does anyone actually have all 3 or in some cases 4 different browsers installed?

Why would you need all of them? Is Firefox that much different then Thunderbird that you need to have both?

I also can't see the one grand feature that would make me completly switch from IE. I know allot of people will bring up a ton of good reasons, but whats the BIGGEST reason to switch?
For a novice user as myself I can't find that great big thing no matter how hard I look.

    Just my humble opinion.

First, MSDN is by far the best documentation source I have ever encountered. Not only is depth of information huge, the interface is easy to use and the community that is willing to answer your questions so large but the information is also provided in such a way that finding an answer or a code sample is easy.

Second, I don't ever want to deal with the code of an API or a Library. To me it has to be a black box that I can trust (or at least place blame on) because its not my job to debug the API. Third. Complie debug code into every library? What?

A short answer would be Yes.

A long answer would be Yes, if that method of advertising would not lower peoples oppinion of my company. I quickly realized that it would be dammaging to our reputation so we never tried it again. Like I said in my previous post, alot of small companies are coned into this type of advertising because they don't know what they are getting into. I did not know all the facts at that time. I get offers like these once or twise a week and I always turn them down, no matter the potential. And belive me, there is a lot of pottential.

The people that make malware and spyware and the other crud that steals our time every day don't care about anything google has to say.

I think that a better aproach would be to target the companies who advertise on their networks. Sime kind of a "Google Aproved" icon would show that this company does not use pupups, spyware or whatever other neusances are out there. When I am about to make a purchase and I see a Versign button I pretty much know that I can trust the transaction. When I see a eTrust button the company went through the effort (and paid money) to at least provide me with their possition in regards to my privacy.

I fully admit it. As a matter of fact I did it just to see if there would be any ROI from it. After I realized that this is all a scam I never did it again, nor would I recommend anyone to do so. Like I said in my first post, they target small startups that have no Idea what they are doing with Internet Advertising.

Patrick Byrne's comments regarding the hijacking of affiliate profits are dead on.

I haven able to gather some interesting statistics about the "Parasitic" methods discussed in the article. The conversion of Visitors to Customer is about .2% of what you would normally get by traditional targeted banner advertising but the cost of the campaign is about 30% of the price. When you consider that in a commercial banner campaign your best hope is a 2% clickthrough (and even that is not that easy anymore) I can't see anyone except the ad companies making any money.

In my humble experience the spyware companies and their affiliates target small startup companies luring them in with the cheap cost of getting new customers. Heck that's how they got me to spend 350$ on a campaign that ran on WhenU. For the money spend I received 0 Customers, 3 Complains and my CC being charged triple that took almost 30 days to resolve. But I receive at least 5 e-mails daily and at least 1 call per week from people advertising this exact same product.

I am still waiting for the prices of LCD monitors to drop to make it worth the switch from my trusted CRT. Based on what I have seen with the progression of LCDs into the mainstream it will take at least 5 years for something like this to become affordable. By then we will have 3D displays slowly hitting the market.

Living in Los Angeles, where the price is about .50 higher then what I remember a year ago I spend an average of $15 more each week or about $50 per month. While this sounds pretty bad, I have to add that my rent has increased by $200 in the past year, my insurance is up by at least $100 and my average living cost went up by at least another $100 for the same things I used to buy last year. The $50 doesnt faze me, the $500 does.
