Yes, it is only inaccurate due to the fact is military tech.... if you want to use GPS tracking for things like Nascar etc you have to apply for usage and then your inventory of devices is audited.
I was being a bit facetious with my other comments, I don't disagree that space or military tech doesn't advance civil technology over time but I do strongly believe that these new techniques will be turned back against the civilians in what could be considered 'thought crime'.
God, we've all had thoughts about killing people or stealing money in the 'whatif' scenario when you are upset or bored at work etc.... but would you actually go through with it? can that be measured also?
GPS... no its inaccurate by a few meters, we'll do our own thanks Automatic and semi automatic rifles -- haha NO. Hummers? The uk has just as many idiots that drive fuel slurping cars... hummers OTOH - thank god no!
OTOH... CCTV cameras... over 3000 alone in London? the average person in the uk is seen on camera 300 times a day?
The point however is not the technology itself, but the use of said technology. To say that this at some point wont be pointed and the countries own citizens in the future is just plain ignorant. That was the point I was making about CCTV cameras.
Times like these I wish I had mod points:-| well said!

"Would I miss a free/.? Maybe. Or maybe I'd just get more work done."
Maybe you'd just go somewhere else? I was more than happy with the interweb before the last dotbomb, I don't understand why people seem to think it should become another content media platform, if I wanted to watch shite I'd turn the TV on.
Actually I do... but I wont go into the American rhetoric of make a fast buck out of everything you can get your hands on and then some.
I'd say that Solaris does have a comparable community following to a popular linux distro such as RH, mandriva or suse.
I do however find it hard to believe Solaris can take on Linux as a whole and come out tops.
Good luck to them however, if they dont play any MS scare tactics I'll be glad to have them as another viable competitor to Linux. I've not really had that much joy with Solaris personally, but like Novel I respect their roots and believe that if any big iron corporation can do an IBM then Sun can.
So if someone breaks into your house... and you call the cops.
You wouldn't be annoyed if they asked for your drivers license to prove that you were the victim and not the burglar?
The police probably did have a right to ask for ID...
but I don't think you can book someone for not having provided ID if you cant book them for something else in the first place.
I'm sorry, and I realise that this guy was just being an arrogant bastard. But I don't think it has ever been illegal in America to be an arrogant bastard, and that was what the guy was done for.
Depending on the cops attitude (Which I'm going to assume was provocative without reason) I'm thinking that I would have been charged the same way as that guy with the exception I might have offered my receipt in the first place out of courtesy.
OTOH, the manager never accused him of stealing anything (they couldn't because they had no evidence) I would have asked why they wanted to search my bags if they didn't believe I had stolen something and if they still refused to say the blatant acquisition that I was a thieving bastard then that would be their problem not mine.
I actually agree... to the extent that I think if anything Vista has helped linux gain marketshare. I upgraded to Vista beta and expected/hoped the OS to mature into retail... when it did not mature and I was so frustrated with the crapware and DRM Microsoft provided I didn't want to go back to XP, Aero is damn fine looking WHEN it works
So I stopped dabbling in linux like I have done for the last 10 years and now use Linux-Compiz / OSX entirely...
The only thing that would have stopped me really is Games, but I cant say I've seen any games recently that I desperately feel I should have kept windows for.
Really though, I couldn't give a fvck what OS you used, just as long as there is competition so everyone gets a choice.
I mean I know we've always had morons... although admittedly digg helped to carry a good few of them away...
but why is there so much first post spam and grotesque bullshit? maybe they should put a weekly limit on how many AC posts you are allowed or something?:-|
I said the same about my sidewinder II.... till it broke:(, was my favourite stick too:(
As I also type this on my MS keyboard and mouse... Microsoft has made some good hardware in the past, maybe they should stick to that rather than pretending to do software >:)
and anytime you have long uninhabited expanses you have bottlenecks. With bottlenecks you have greedy monopolists and with greedy monopolists you have restricted access.
I don't believe there is any big network issue that cannot be fixed with technology today. I just don't think that any of the corps that have the power to change have the incentive to change. Until they do, or are pushed we'll keep on running out of internets like we have been for the last 20 years!
As much as I dislike Novell for dealing with MS, I have to agree that apart from that they have contributed quite a bit to open source. A good chunk of their engineers work on open source software when they have their spare time at work. Not as much as the likes of Google but still a contribution to say the least.
considering all a torrent file contains is links....
you could also suggest if this were really illegal then Google is allowing child porn, torture, rape.. and breaking every law out there.
when I bought a PC in 1994...
it came with Lotus 123r5
and Lotus AmiPro.
it was definitely badged Lotus.... but who actually did the work, heh I dunno.
I'm more concerned about the space in your 'for got'
kettle pot black?

just like CCTV cameras were only used in high security sensitive areas.

/moment of temporary insanity
And you actually thought it was aimed at terrorism?
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA !!!!
heheh wooshed over your heads I see...

only in *your* wet dreams
I agree that the guy probably should of shown his receipt BUT
"
The cop asks for a driver's license. If he in fact has it on him, why not show it to him other than to continue his streak of being a dick?"
WTF is that all about? I think soviet Russia has just moved a few thousand miles closer.
Papers, please

sad state of affairs sir when even the common garden trolls get modded +1 insightful - get a grip
Whats up with all the morons on /. these days?

think we'll see the return of Lindows since Microsoft owns the trademark by default? :)

I live in the UK, and I'm just concerned its gonna come over here more than it already has!
Thats all we need...

Lets swap one monopoly for another
not going to happen... they'd rather use the tech to pound you with advertising than actually doing something useful.
not a celeron per chance?
