  1. My experiences... on Are LCD Displays Ready For Gaming? · · Score: 1

I have a Samsung 172X and a Sony SDM 17. Neither of them have any problems during gaming. I would recommend the 172X, it goes for very cheap at newegg.com considering it has DVI input. I've noticed on 19 inch LCDs that use analog input, ghosting is more apparent. The monitor in particular was a low end Samsung 910 Model. Other things to look at is how the monitor will be positioned in your setup. While the Horizontal viewing angle is generally good on most LCDs, the vertical veiwing angle can make the monitor seem not as bright. Ensuring the monitor you get will be even with your line of sight is important. Another reason Why i like the 172X - its wall mountable out of the box, so you can just have it in front of you, exactly where you need it. Good luck with your choice!

  2. Re:too expensive on Why iPod Can't Save Apple · · Score: 2, Interesting

It seems to me that the entire PC game market is slowing down. The most popular games now are of the MMO class, most likely due to their addictive nature. With the way console gaming is increasing, I think not pursueing a game market may actually have been a good idea. The thing that hurts apple the most, in my opinion, is the fact that they cannot call their Processor 4 GHZ. The target market is consumers who desire ease of use, but this same market likes big numbers. Apple's big numbers come with an even bigger price tag, which makes it difficult when Dell can offer a 3 GHZ machine for 700 dollars.

well, looks like I was slow with my comment :) I'm personally hoping that it is a primary gaming machine, with the extra functionality unlocked for use but not marketed. People should be buying it because they know it is a gaming machine, and be happy when they see "well, it can play mp3s, thats kind of nice"

  4. too much press without product on Nintendo DS Full Specs Allegedly Leaked · · Score: 4, Insightful

It seems that there is quite a bit of negative views surrounding the DS from readers. In my opinion, the N-Gage's failure can be attributed to all the negative reviews it recieved. It was flamed in Penny Arcade, and other review sites rated it poorly. If it recieved opposite reviews, would it have been a success? Now we are getting a lot of press about the DS, but no product and some are already making judgements, mostly based on the fact that none of us have any idea on what exactly this device will do.
I still have high faith in Nintendo; the Gameboy's proven success gives them a stronger foot that this potentially revolutionary product will succeed. I really am looking forward to seeing what this product really does though, as it has peaked my curiosity.

  5. Multimedia meaning mp3? on Nintendo DS to Play Movies? · · Score: 2, Interesting

It would be interesting that the DS could also function as somethign simple, like an MP3 player. For Nintendo's purposes, its probably not very hard to add in mp3 support, but it could go a long way in marketing. Perhaps They could also use it as an extension to a digital camera; multimedia is a very broad term. They really just need to avoid falling into the same pitfall that N-Gage did. While it would be interesting to see what they come up with, inside, I hope it stays a gaming machine.

  7. Re:This is bound to happen on MMO Gaming - Virtually Too Real? · · Score: 0

Puzzle pirates, which is the only MMO game I've really got into thus far, has quite a bit of developer backing to foster the community. As I say in the game, "a crew is only as good as its captain" thus a game's attitude can be easily influenced by how developers act.

From what it seems also, the growth into puzzle pirates is not as high compared to some MMOGs, and I'm sure that has definatly slowed the process of those coming into ruin the game for others. In the game, players are quick to report when someone is 'griefing' them, and the developers or game masters will usually take action against them immediately.

You all should try it out! Yar!

  8. Potential Security Risk on Open Source Software Serves Niche Markets · · Score: 0, Insightful

As we know, Microsoft applications are consistantly attacked because of its large market share and the damaging effect that the security holes in it have. The thing about those, is that people have to figure out inventive ways to do it. Now, with open source, there is a community that creates it, and the open source community generally supports it well. If open source is more mainstream, will there be worry that due to the availability of the source code, people can make even more painful security exploits?
