Well after being severely beaten and nearly killed by an angry cop and nearly getting several years in prison for made up charges I am moving to somewhere very remote, with very loose gun laws (so that I can protect myself against cops), and where coming into contact with the police at all is much less likely. For me, it's either that or leaving the country. America has some of the most violent, dangerous, corrupt, and angry cops in the world. And they are both well armed and well protected with body armor. How I long for a place where cops are just normal people doing a job. Somewhere where the majority of cops are not sociopaths with no feelings of remorse and no conscience. Was there ever a time when cops in America actually had a sense of right and wrong like they often have in the movies and on TV? American cops don't even respect the very laws they are supposed to enforce. At least when it applies to themselves.

But in previous posts on slashdot you've already claimed that you got beat by cops for talking smack to them. While it sucks you got beat down, I think you should accept that you provoked it.

I've been arrested a ton of times, I have NEVER been beaten by a cop. Why? Because I know better then to talk shit when they have the upper hand. That gets you nowhere, except beaten or dead.

If you're running into enough cops to have 95% of the cops you meet mean something, you've fucked up yourself. Most people do not encounter more than a small handful during an entire lifetime.

I've been arrested probably about 50 times or so, and in my experience, the cops think they know what is going on, they treat me like shit because I am a "criminal" in their eyes and don't give a fuck about me.

One time when I was arrested the cop was on my side, because he got pissed with the security guards trying to make what i did into a big deal. He let me go, even though I did commit a crime.

I've had cops throw away drugs they could charge me with because they didn't want to do extra paperwork.

I've had cops lie to my face saying they are picking me up for crimes I didn't commit, when they were actually picking me up for a different crime.

Cops do what they want, if it's suits them, in my experience.

I said opinions. Not options. They are different words with different meanings.

There is little to report in cases like this. It would be defamation at the least without having hard evidence. This discussion was about the welfare system in the USA.

You see, in America there is this principle of innocent until proven guilty. Not to mention, people have rights to privacy. As a private citizen, I don't have the right to investigate other peoples private actions. Most of the funds for welfare come from the federal government or states, which is administered by the local counties. The counties are not going to hire people to investigate what happens with other peoples money.

Opinions, Options, doesn't matter, what you said was an assumption, not common sense.

Did you know that reporting someone isn't defaming? Now, if you went in the public and started saying, John Tron is abusing the welfare system, then ya, maybe he has a case against you. You reporting to DSHS that you think John Tron is abusing his welfare (and give a reason), that is okay, because that is what the system is for. That is all your responsibility extends to. Wether the DSHS decides to investigate it or not doesn't matter to you.

You are making excuses and assumptions about what DSHS would do, something you have no knowledge of, and doens't even matter to them. If you do NOT report the person, then of course DSHS is going to do nothing.

By your common sense, that means you are helping the person commit fraud. Fortunately for you, that is not common sense, that is an assumption.

Okay, since most of you probably never been on it, I will give you some info.

Back before EBT was thought up, we had Food Stamps. They were basicly like paper money, but food stamps, only could be spend on food, but you got real change back. So this was abused. People would purposedly by cheap stuff to get change back to spend on drugs/alcohol.

In the 90's they decided to go to a debit like card. This had a few purposes. One was about giving people actually real money change for the food stamps, the other it was cheaper to get digital.

So they decided to go with EBT cards. The Food Stamp part of the card is only for buying Food. You can NOT use it to take money out, you can NOT use it to buy Alcohol. Only food.

They also decided to put DSHS monthly payments on it, which is why you might see using one in an ATM machine, but they are NOT using the Food Stamp part of it.

I remember when food assistance programs meant you got your monthly allotment of government welfare cheese and other staples delivered to your door. im all for taking it back to that time. The 'modern' method of distributing benefits definitely opens the way to fraud, especially when you can get cash from the ebt card at casinos. It has made fraud so easy now many of the benefits are not going to their intended purpose. However, there are not too many crack dealers that will trade a block of cheese for drugs. That is the way it should be. Keep the benefits, just change the method of delivery. i think that would help more than anything. im tired of working hard to fund some other's drug or gambling habit with this kind of abuse.

You have no idea what a EBT is do you?

EBT have 2 uses. 1 use if for food stamps. That money on the card for food stamps can ONLY be used to purchase food. You can NOT use it to take money out of your food part.

The other use of EBT is putting on money from services like DSHS.

For example, before I was on disability I got $330 a month to live on from DSHS, and $190 in Food stamps (food credit really). I was able to take out $330 using an ATM, but the $190 was just for Food.

That money I got monthly doesn't matter if I got it on the EBT card, or if I got it in a check, it was my money to spend. And it has nothing to do with Food Stamps.

So, if you saw a person using a EBT to take out money, he/she was doing what they are allowed to. They are NOT using their Food Stamps to get money from an ATM. That is NOT even possible.

So before you start spouting off about what you saw, trying learning a bit about it first before you make accusations that are NOT true.

Never been to prison, but I have read documented cases of guards beating prisoners as well as personal accounts I have read online. I did quite a bit of research into beatings as well as rape when I was facing a possible 2-3 year stretch in state prision. What I learned from my research was that rape is a lot less common than it used to be especially in state (as opposed to federal) prisons, but that sadistic guards are still around and you can definitely expect the occassional beating if a guard is in a bad mood or just very sadistic.

I have also been badly beaten by a police officer for challenging his authority right in front of lots of other cops who seemed to see nothing wrong with it and all of whom covered for him later. I even think there is a good chance that he actually intended to kill me. Obviously that experience tends to color my views of US law enforcement types in general.

I've been locked in a jail cell overnight a couple of times and I noticed that all the other guys referred to the cops as "sir". So I don't think I'm the only one who fears their arbitrary power. I realize that prison guards are not necessarily as sadistic and evil as cops, but I do think that the same sorts of power-mad bullies would be interested in both jobs. I couldn't help noticing that Charles Graner, the infamous Abu Ghraib torturer and sadist, was a prison guard in civilian life. The job tends to attract such people I think. Angry guys with something to prove. Obviously not all of them, but it doesn't have to be all of them to be the victim of one.

I totally agree there is corrupt people that do what they want everywhere, but you are talking like it's a common occurrence, and from what I understand, it's not.

So you talked shit and challenged a cop in front of other cops? What the fuck do you expect to happen? That the cop will give you donuts and a get out of jail card? Not saying what happened to you was right, or legal, but if you are stupid enough to talk smack to cops when they are surrounded by other cops, you likely are going to get a bit of a beat down. Change cops to jock, druggy, drunk, etc and you'll get the same result.

You've been locked in a jail overnight and because some peeps called the jailors sir, that means what exactly? I have spent a total of 3 month at least in jail. Nothing longer then 3 weeks at a time. We do NOT call anyone Sir. The guards don't even get treated with any respect. If someone is stupid to try to dig in and talk serious smack to a guard, then they get thrown in the hole/solitary confinement. If they get beat on the way down, well, don't go around pissing off the guards when you are in a situation where they have the control and advantage.

I don't agree with a lot of what goes on, but I'm smart enough to know that you if you keep hitting a wasp nest with a stick, that you are going to get stung.
