He sends DMCA notices, then he gets threated to be sued over crap and he gets scared?
Why the fuck did he sent the DMCA notices to begin with, if he wasn't prepared to stand his ground? All he's doing is giving this other person ammo and basicly permission to be a cunt with other peoples properties.
Candice Shwagger is a bully, you stand up to bullies.
Regardless of whether so.cl succeeds or fails, by having another "giant" enter the social networking arena will drive up innovation.
...
Really? Seems to me it's just another example of MS trying to get on a bandwagon once again, since they are always late to the party. And having searches shared with friends isn't innovation, it's fucking creepy.
Seriously, I don't care what my friends are searching, and honestly, knowing some of the shit i search for, I don't want to know what my friends are searching for.
Social Networking is cool, i guess, but seriously, do we fucking need to share everything we do online?
If I find something cool, I can easily tell my friends. I can email them, twitter them, facebook wall it, text them, and probably some other ways also. In fact, it gives me a chance to actually communicate with them, instead them getting some automated message about what I'm doing.
I'm sure all this social stuff is really cool, but really, aren't we going a bit overboard on it? Is this the way to communicate by not actually communicating?
For example:
Joe: "Hey, how is your brother doing, Dave?" Dave: "According to so.cl, he's got crabs, is looking for a new job, and seems to be interested in Chicks with Dicks." Joe: "So you haven't actually talked to him lately?" Dave: "Talk about what? Everything we do is recorded and sent to all my friends, nothing to talk about."
I know it sounds crazy, but just think, if we all vote online, we can all keep track of our votes. We can see what/who we voted for, and have the option to publicly announce it online. If we think someone has been fudging the numbers, a re-count could be a simple has checking your email, and verifying how you voted. I would think that it would be easier for computer geeks to catch problems if something doesn't look right.
When I vote on paper, I never see that ballet again. Who knows what happens to it, probably gets trashed.
Voting is private, what you are suggesting isn't really private.
I was wondering what he was going to do with the World's Largest Science Fair, how big it was, and where he was going to store it. But apparently he only won $75k at a Science Fair. I guess it's the largest science fair, but I'm not sure anymore, no faith in the submission being accurate.
I kid!!!! Really nice a 15 year old can make something better then most the adults out there. When I was 15 I was just thinking about how I needed to get laid. oh, wait, that never changes....
Okay, there is way too many religions in this world, and we know not all of them can be right. (IMO, none of them are right, all man made bullshit)
So it's time to stick all the religious people together and let them fight it out. To the death.
Whatever religion ends up with the only survivors, will be the Dominant religion that everyone else can then ignore.
Because I find it offensive that all these "religious" groups want shit special for them. Life isn't good enough for them, so they try to make it worse for others.
I can't really understand why you're saying that share price going down on IPO is a troubling signal. During normal operation, sure, but on IPO? It just means that the company didn't undervalue themselves and sell their shares at too low prices.
If I were a shareholder before the IPO and the per share price would had doubled, that would mean half of my potential profit and ownership lost. It's not rocket science. Remember that Facebook fixed their shares price like 8 times to get it to correct level - I'm sure there was tons of people at Facebook trying to evaluate the right price during the last months.
So all in all, it's better for shareholders and Facebook that the price went down instead of up. Otherwise it doesn't really matter. Especially since they already raised that $16 billion on Friday.
So what's the troubling part? I cannot understand.
Let's see, say you bought 100 shares at $38 each, so you spent $3800.
Now the stocks are worth $35 each, so you just lost $300. Great investment of your money there.
I don't know about you, but losing money right away sort of sucks.
I can download the show before it airs here in Seattle, and often I do. I don't watch it till later that night though.
Why don't I watch on on Comcast Cable? I can, I have HBO, but the quality of Comcast HDTV is lackluster at best, and artifacty at worse. If I paid for it, I would be bummed out. The copies I download are almost always of better quality.
Here's why I think people download it:
It's a good show, but has a limited view range. Meaning, you have to have HBO to see it. So, people don't want to wait to see what everyone else is talking about. Honestly, I can't blame them, who wants spoilers? We live in an instant world now. While I can wait to see stuff, the mentallity seems to be everything now. Which is probably why people watch cams of movies.
In this day and age, making something that can be digitalize, scarce to make more money, is going to back fire on you.
Mohammed had 12 wives. You have evidence of polygamy on that scale in Christian Europe?
Mohammed was 52 years old when he consummated his marriage to the 9-year old Aisha. This was common in Christian Europe?
How was this progressive? How was Europe worse? Do tell defender of Islam..
No man in his right mind wants more then 1 wife.
And as for a 52 year old marring a 9 year old, that isn't new. Sure, in modern times we don't do that, but thru out history the old marrying the young has been very common place. Usually for alliances. In case you don't know, marriage for love is a recent thing, you used to marry whom your family told you.
For the record, I'm not Islam, I do NOT believe in religions. But if your going to knock them, do it right. Not with stuff that honestly doesn't matter.
Look. They claim missing ads revenue, but do they really?
How many of the ads are actually something you would buy?
Maxipads? No, not me. New Cars? Hell no, i don't drive.
Taco Bell/Burger King/Most any fast food place. Ain't none near me, and oddly enough, i live on the edge of downtown seattle, go figure that one out.
I'd say at least 1 out of every 500 ads (guessing here) are relevant to me. And since I'm not an a typical person I'm sure more are relevant to others.
What do I actually watch on TV? Sports. I download everything else. Not only to I get to skip the stupid ass ads, I get a better quality show then if i had watched it on the Comcast cable I have (HDTV). Yes, 720p shows look like crap most the time on Comcast cable because they are compressing the streams down so much, that you get video artifacts when people move. Try watching The Ultimate Fighter or a UFC match on Fuel or Fox on Comcast, you think your watching a super crappy SD recording of it.
So, here's the deal.
Advertisers are going to pay the money for the fucking ads no matter what. You get a show that is a big hit, like i guess, American Idol. Advertisers are still going to pay for adds at that spot. Don't matter how many people download the show later to watch it, it already air and the advertisers already paid for that. Any bitching is the Corporate Greed Cycle that is trying to get as much as it can, before we finally shut them down. (legally, I would think).
Centurylink has been having some routing issues the past few days (which is why I STILL haven't been able to download my Torchlight 2 Beta!) and I was beginning to suspect that they might have come about by them playing stupid routing tricks to block TPB.
I've had DSL with them for 8 years now and they've given me as close to a raw pipe as I'm likely to get, and that would have pissed me off to no end, since the fact that they don't fuck with me is the primary reason I pay more and tend to be mellow about the occasional outage, because, and I quote, "At least they're not Comcast."
I was saying that, till I got a notice the other day saying I've gone over the 250gb limit for the last 3 months, and i that i need to cut my usage rate down.
NewEgg has failed me for the first time in a decade. I pre-ordered a copy ($10 off) but they didn't bother shipping it until today (UPS 3 day). Considering D3 has an interesting DRM that allows you to install it before the launch date and just prevents you from playing it until then, it would have made more sense to me if NewEgg shipped them late last week so they would arrive today or yesterday. One egg off for poor planning.
The game wasn't released until today, Newegg can NOT ship it before the release date.
Same as you can NOT go to Best Buy or Gamestop and buy the game any day before today.
Always has been this way.

Pre-ordered a copy a couple of weeks because a bunch of friends are also going to play it, despite me normally avoiding always-on DRM for single player games like the plague. Retail copy arrived today, get home to play. Had already preinstalled the game, put my retail code in via the website... And have spent literally the last hour (6.30 to 7.30pm UK time) trying to login to the bloody thing to play single player, nothing but error 37 and error 75.
Fuck Blizzard for requiring always-on DRM, and then cheaping out on enough servers to meet demand. Fuck em right up the arse.
They don't care, they already got your money.

Yeah; I don't know why people are assuming that Blizzard will shut down the D3 servers any time soon. They are pretty good about keeping their game servers alive.
You are missing the point. The point is, if Blizzard shuts down servers, the game is unplayable (currently, lets see how it's crack goes). Diable II, that game is very playable without the internet, or a Blizzard server.
Doesn't matter if Blizzard has NEVER shut down a server, the point is, if they do, the game is no longer playable. Not even the single player portion.
Think about it.

Whomever bought the IP rights of the company for cheap when it goes belly up.
What? You think Blizzard is going to go out of business without selling it's IP? You know nothing of business.

Yes, I'm talking about the movie and music industries, but it applies to these weirdo's also.

Of course, you need a real OS on it.
