Why aren't the christians calling for execution of homosexuals or at least making homosexuality a death penalty offense.
That is why the FSF suggests that you turn over your copyrights on GPLed code to them. If they can gather all the copyrights in one place then it's easier to defend.
No you are wrong. They want software to be free (as in freedom). They believe that software in the public domain is actually bad for the commons in the long run because it can be made proprietary.
The only way to assure that is with strong copyright protections.

MS office was a killer app. Now it's just another office suite amongst many. It may even be the best (I certainly don't think so) but it is in no way worth the extra cost. No matter how good it is it's not $400.00 better then the competition.
The vast majority of the software used in corporations is custom written. The office/email stuff is commodity by now and most corporations have switched over to java for internal programs.
Even if the software can't re-written they will use things like citrix and terminal server or VMware to run the few things that need to be in windows but the underlying OS will be Linux.
Having said that there are plenty of corporations who are vendor locked by MS. They can't switch because their entire infrastructure is based on VB or exchange or Active Directory. These businessess will have to cross their fingers and hope that higher IT expenditures then their competition will not allow them to get rolled over.
I never understood why people didn't just make their config files python or perl or something. Instead of writing your own parser for your own config dialect why not just let it be python?
So why don't the lawyers make it easy for non lawyers to go to court and sue or defend themselves. Doctors should not have to go pay somebody $150.00 and hour just so they can defend themselves against silly suits should they?
And why should I pay a psycologist $100.00 dollars an hour just to talk to me. That does not seem right. The headshrinks should just write better documentation so I can do it myself.
These people who worked for countless hours to buidl something just so you can have it free. What should they say? Should they bow down to your majesty, drop whatever they are doing and tend to your needs?

Linux will penetrate the desktop starting with the corporation. The corporation will use linux desktops to save money and cut down on IT staff. Home users will then install linux whether they like it or not just to be able to take work home.
It all has to do with campaign contributions. Ellison is a well known donor to democrats so he must be punished by Ashcroft. Just like Martha Stewart. Martha stewart is on trial because she prevented a 60 thousand dollar loss. Ken Lay and Bernie Ebbers were never even tried for ripping of tens of billions of dollars from people. Bernie Ebbers alone accounted for nine billion dollars of fraud by worldcom.
I don't think Oracle is just as evil. I think Oracle is less evil then MS for sure. At least they haven't been tried and found guilty of any crime or wrongdoing.

In the old days there was the company town. You worked for the company, they gave you money. You paid rent back to the company, you bought groceries from the company, you bought clothes from the company and pretty soon your whole pacheck went back to the company. For many they actually ended up owing the company rather then end up at zero or positive.
Right now for most americans that's pretty much the same situation. You work, you live, you end up in debt. The companies continually lobby for and get less regulation and less safe. They fight against higher wages, they fight against safe working conditions.
MS is working right now through SCO and other entities to ban open source development. They are also lobbying govt to prevent it from releasing code into GPL.
They have had minor success so far but like everything else they will throw enough money into it to succeed.
We went there, we killed lots of people, we left. After we left the bad people came in anyway and did bad things.
If the purpose of us going there was to prevent bad people from coming in and doing bad things then we failed miserably. In fact we caused more suffering then if we simply had stayed out of it.
It all depends on how you live. If you live from paycheck to paycheck for subsidence then you are pretty much like the slaves. You get a choice of masters maybe but you are still a slave.

I was in the same boat. I bought a powerbook. I am so glad I didn't go with XP. It's been awsome. Fun to work with, great looking and rock solid.

What you really need to do is find a way to empower the artistic types so they can do the gui for you.
Programmers are not artists and artists are not programmers. If you want better GUIs write a tool that an artist can use to create a GUI for you.
MS is about to enter this field. They will stab their current partner SAP in the back but they are going in full force.
They will tie office and especially outlook with teh CRM part and leverage their monopoly just like they have done in the past.
If the Oracle deal does not go through expect MS to own the field in three to five years.

The corporation can buy politicians and pass draconian laws which the govt enforces. That's the way it works.
Corporations don't need to send you to jail, it's cheaper to buy some politicians to do that for you.
