  1. Double standards... on Hackers Take Aim at Republicans · · Score: 1

Why is it that the democrats are always 'marching' and 'protesting' and now 'hacktivists'... and they're bigotry concerning the NJ Governor....

When was the last time that Republicans went out and disrupted their opposing party ?

Why is it okay for all of these protests and massively disruptive/destructive things, but not okay for 'Girlie Men' comments ?

Name one thing that a Republican can 'get away with', that a Democratic can't.

Sometimes I wonder about my fellow Americans.

  2. Do it yourself with a handful of parts ... on Send A Message To An LED Sign · · Score: 1

    From Atmel: 8051.

    Some drivers/latches from Micrel.

And of course some LED blocks from Sun LED.

The 8051 handles incoming serial data as well as acting as a 'RAM DAC' to load the lines on the Micrels which act as line drivers to the LED displays.

The Micrel's can be bit-banged in a serial-ish protocol which corellates to outputs on the 8-16 pins on each micrel (ie: think of it as programming a multipin output chip via a serialish link).

The 8051 constantly changes which row of LED block its updating and goes about it's business. Ideally, the 8051 should be changing rows 70 times a second for a good clean refresh rate.

These really aren't any different from the LCD modules you can pick up from Jameco, Hosfelt, or MPJA (or perhaps Digikey).

And lets not forget Find Chips for all of your parts searching needs.

Who decides what is a necessity/food ? Don't forget, in Louisianna that alcohol/beer is considered a FOOD and is tax free. Then there's the whole napoleonic code etc etc etc..

I personally think we should get rid of the federal income tax. It was implemented to pay for The War, and it was supposed to be revoked afterwards.. but never was. The Constitution and subsequent laws following it were to keep the federal gov't out of our personal lives... and that's all changed in the last 80 years. I now have to pay taxes to a national organization, get a refund from them that is INTEREST free, and can even receive monies from them without ever seeing the face of the person who is giving me the money. Total lack of personal responsibility.

The Federal Gov't taxes the States, and the States tax the people. That's how it was originally setup, and that's what I'd like to see return to our fair land.

Modern metal is all... reflections of metallica's 'load' and 'reloaded'... inner reflections of ... boring attitudes.

I'm sorry, but there's not much in modern music that fits me. I'll stick with 80's hair bands, 60's to 80's metal, and classic rock (LedZep!) thank you.

At least there's happy feel good music in those selections unlike the cut-yourself-suicidal rantings of today.

...It's easy when you collect nearly 10% of the cost of every PC that's shipped, while having no manufacturing costs of your own. ...

Why do people always assume that the Manufacturing cost has anything to do with software ? Alot of times, software companies make the grunt of their money doing R&D work for other companies. A prime example is the video casino market where a particular client may want a particular style or a new idea and want to see how it pans out... but don't have the resources to test the ideas...

Microsoft has alot of money spent in R&D. If it's well spent or not is up to you, but I imagine all of those offices filled with coders don't come for free... lest I can have one, too :)

  7. No diff than other commercial end-user software on Is Windows Worth $45? · · Score: 1

Look at Norton, Symantec, or other PC Utility / etc software companies. Alot of them charge between $40 and $60 for their software from the retail floor or their website.... not to mention the price of games and productivity software.

Paying $45 for the center piece of software that 'powers' all of that seems reasonable.

Do I want the option of what software comes pre-installed on my pc ? Most definately yes.

If I wanted a Windows based box, would I find $45 to be unreasonable when compared to the other utilities that any normal Windows user would go out and purcahse ? Most definately not.

If I don't receive Windows on my box and I'm still effectively paying for it, would I be ranting and raving ? ... I'd be busy doing so and not posting here about it :)

You can get an idea of who someone has correspondence by tracking their postal mailings, phone calls placed, or even being as direct as raiding the old fashioned address book found in most homes.

The only major difference with the digital stuff is that you're openly advertising who you associate with, and you're more likely to include larger lists of 'associates' simply because it's easier to do so.

IE: how many ppl do you know that have buddy lists or email addresses for hundreds of people when they don't really know who they are ?

Just use your head and don't post to us.bomb.here newsgroups or add strange fellowes to any 'address book' of sorts. If you happen to find your way on to THEIR address book, you just become a name in a very long list and have every ability to clear your name, assuming you haven't shot yourself in the foot.

Sure... but I see this as being more useful as a loader such as seen in Aliens (the movie). Being able to get a decent carrying capacity and stuff in a tight spot is highly advantageous for maximizing floor space usage.

At work, I have limitations (ie: clueless coworkers, embedded systems limitations, deadlines, etc) that cause me to resent what I do. Writing beautiful code that's equivilant to an optic surgery laser, only to have coworkers treat it like a sledge hammer... is very depressing.

At home, I'm willing to write beautiful code that knows no boundaries and can be as modular and extensable as I desire. It's a real joy to write code at home, much like a creative release from the mundane tasks of the day.

I don't hate coding, I hate having to write neuthered/nerfed code.
