  1. Re:City of London Police not eq Met Police on London Police Placing Anti-Piracy Warning Ads On Illegal Sites · · Score: 2

Argh! Forgot to check for unicode stripping. Corrected.

It is worth stressing that: The City of London is not equal to A city called London, capital of the UK. The City of London Police is not equal to Metropolitan Police, the police force for London.

The City of London is a square mile of land governed by a plutocracy. The actions of their police force does not surprise me.

I believe you will find it in the Magna Carta (MC.29 on http://alexpeak.com/twr/mc/) for an early variation on the concept.

"No freeman shall be taken captive or imprisoned, or deprived of his lands, or outlawed, or exiled, or in any way destroyed, nor will we go with force against him nor send forces against him, except by the lawful judgment of his peers or by the law of the land."

While this was originally intended for the nobles, since the emancipation of the masses, I believe it applies to everybody. However, there may be more recent statues that supersede it, such as European Convention on Human Rights.

To be honest, I think the licence fee is worth every penny for Radio 2, 4, 5 Live, 6 Music and the website alone. I'm very happy to pay it for everything.

  8. Re:EU is such a silly idea... on Over 1 Million .eu Domains and Counting · · Score: 4, Insightful

    Well, not entirely.

The European Union is a free trade area so there are import/export duties on goods traded with the zone. There are some businesses who would therefore treat this entire area as one and for them branding themselves under an EU domain would make sense.

A UN domain would never be used for that reason as it is purely political and not economic.

I recently started uni and from what I have seen here, girls are far more into sci-fi and fantasy than boys. I've even got two girls who regularly come to watch SG1 with me and another who is lending me her Firefly boxset in exchange for my BSG.

    Good ol' blighty.

I think you'll find that the European Space Agency and the European Union are two seperate entities, run by different people, funded in different ways. Whatever fate eventually befalls the EU, ESA should be able to carry on regardless.
