When we moved into our new building with sealed windows and a management system, I fiddled about with it a bit until everyone was generally happy with it. It's exactly 24 at my desk as I type this, so I'd agree with that being a sensible temperature. 21 sounds much too cold. We wouldn't put up with that for too long.

I still miss the RAM disk (I haven't found a similar one on a PC to this day, that re-sizes) a lot, and the ASSIGN command (in general use as a standard way of doing things), and the URL going into the comments field when I download things, the instantaneous feedback from the OS, screen handling, and many, many other things. It was a joy to use, and M$ took over. I hate them. That is all.

  13. QNX, fantastic! on Ford Dumping Windows For QNX In New Vehicles · · Score: 1

About 15 years ago when I was still using my Amiga every day, there was talk of QNX being part of the Amiga's future. I got a demo on a 1.44Mb floppy and tried it out. It booted from the floppy into a GUI OS with a web browser, text editing program, demos, etc. I was amazed at what they'd squeezed onto one disk. Then of course nothing happened with that and the Amiga, but it's always been there in the back of my mind about how great this tiny OS was.

Fast forward to last week, and I get a new car. A 13 reg. Ford Fiesta. I flick through the Sync manual and was horrified to see the Microsoft logo. Seriously, Microsoft software is in my car!!!!? Arghhh! This is a nightmare I joked about decades ago.

Now my least favourite OS gets replaced by one of my favourites. I REALLY hope I can upgrade it, as I heard a few days ago that they are going to allow people to download the software themselves and install from the USB port.

I have to look away from them as they freak my eyes out. So I end up driving along behind a breaking car looking away from the direction I'm going in! How are these allowed? I'm thinking of getting a new car soon, and one of the things I'll be looking at are the lights. If it has LED lights at the back, or the blue blinding lights in the front, I won't consider it.

These laser ones sound worse than the blue ones.

It did struggle a bit with the Quicktime videos, but overall it was excellent. I got Riven on the Playstation and got a PS mouse just to play that one game.

It's for hacking into networks, right? Isn't that against the law, like, EVERYWHERE? It says "Stealth Access Point for Man-in-the-Middle attacks" - that sounds illegal. It also says "Easily concealed and battery powered " - nothing dodgy going on there!

How can this be used for good? Maybe a few people may use it to test the security of their network, but that's clearly not what it's for.

I'd have thought that the police would be all over this, but like I said, I'm obviously missing something.

Our VT terminals once completely freaked out when someone made a call and ever since I've wondered how this is allowed.

I remember hearing that the Vic 20 was delayed because it needed to have shielding added, and I've never noticed interference from any device apart from phones. Even new ones cause terrible interference on radios. My Dad has a Blackberry and he can't put it in the small holder near his radio as it constantly makes noises on it.

Can anyone explain any of this?

I think I've only seen one full advert break in the last few years when I was watching someone else's TV and didn't have a choice.

It's too late now, as I'll never watch adverts because of that (and equally because of the annoyance/stupidity of them), so if they did this in the UK I'm beyond caring any more.
