You can call it the music industry royalty but we all know it's a pirate tax.

One good reason why it's a dumb idea for others to pay it is because (take the iPod for example) other devices can be used as external drives.

If I were to use an iPod as a portable drive for my camera, should I have to pay a royalty for that?

  4. Re:Pull your head out of your ass before talking on No Business Case for HDTV? · · Score: 1

...why would they want to pay more?

Well, they wouldn't want to pay more, they need to pay more to offset the cost of broadcasting.

30-40+ years ago, an advertiser could sponsor 30 minutes of airtime just by having the host state the plug for the product or service.

Your family of concerned parent felt that local celebrities were being created by local businesses and sponsored advertising was creating a monster and untrue product endorsements. This would be your local weatherman issuing a plug for a Chevrolet from the local dealer or your news anchor plugging a gallon of milk and ice cream from the local dairy.

So this stopped local sponsorship and forced advertisers to have commercials to be produced at a much higher cost than a 30 minute sponsored time. Add airtime to that and you get the idea.

There was no need to inject the cost of production of a 30 second spot when a 30 minute sponsored time was cheaper.

There is a real cost to the broadcaster to broadcast HD content so it only makes sense that the advertiser should pay.

The advertiser's dillema is that the cost of an HD spot will cost more than an SD spot and still reach the same demographic.
If the advertiser chooses to only advertise on the last SD station in the market, then that is their choice.

My point adds to the fact that an external monitor requires user intervention and is not automatic unless a docking station is invloved.

The 2 above points negate any user friendly settings that Windows supposedly has as an automatic function whereas my iBook requires nothing more than connection of cables.

He said this "If you want to use the MacBook with the lid closed plug in an external keyboard. Done. I wish my PC laptop did these things."

I currently have a Thinkpad that does not work with the lid closed for external devices AND to use an external monitor, I have to Fn(CRT).
So I have to leave it on, open, and Fn(CRT) for it to work with external devices. When I close the lid, the laptop sleeps. Hardly a default power functionality as you stated.

Not going to buy a docking station as I'm sure that would fix the problem for my intended needs but there is no space for a docking station for my setup.

My iBook I can stack on it's front and have the cables coming out so it only takes up 1" of space vs 13" of space for the thinkpad to stay open.

DRM is Microsoft's only hope for future revenue outside of the OS and Office products. If they can get digital downloads on their codecs commercially, that will be their third profitable arm.

In the event that a form has to be 508 compliant and you don't want spammers to use your form, there are other methods to verify.

If you're going to go through the validity of 508, you might as well:
    • validate the form that the referrer is from within the site itself - all others should be banned for the session/future use
    • validate the data
    • block the forms from known IP addresses that tend to submit spam material
