I run drupal on my web site. And I can tell you this is one of the greatest content management system out there. You can choose to do very very little with it, or you can choose to do an awful lot of stuff. It mostly depends on your need. The system is also very modular and you can write pluggable modules to serve specific purposes for your site only.
Do not see the need for it unless I have a movie theatre like big ass room that I want to fill up with sound. Then ofcourse I will need to furnish it with rows and rows of chairs....popcorn machine...jalapeno stand. Umm no thanks! My 5.1 serves its purposes just fine.
I am sorry to say this but just because all the services that they are now happily giving away will NOT make them a better service provider. If they could not provide good service to customers who paid 23.95/month how can anyone expect that the free users will get a better service?
I would wait on jumping to any type of conclusion and see what happens when EPSRC adopts this for ther 512 node cluster. If it really improves the performance by 10% it certainly should be something to look into.
Now, is there is a market for it at end user's desktop? I don't think so. 9$ Realtek card would be just fine.:-)
Glad to see usability of open source software coming to fore front of the development. This is vital in terms of winning the heart and sould (and mind?) of regular everyday Joe users.
There are several credit card companies who offer one time credit card number which can be used to do the transactions on web. That would help in web transaction but not on the POS.
I agree, programmers or in other words Code Drones are the primary resource to do the legworks for any software company. The core design and developing a meaningful architecture rests on the shoulder of the product architect. The drones can be rarly blamed for a colossal failure of the software as long as they build it according to the blueprint.
And a giant slap for the Giant.
Seriously, audacity that microsoft displays every now and then and the attitude that they are above the law must turn off any good sensible person in this world. I am glad the judge saw them through for what they really are. A bully and a killer of innovative spirits.
From the Apache DS web site it is not clear the choices they made regarding the architecture. I am not convinced writing a java based LDAP server is feasible in real life scenario. But then they may know something that we don't. Hopefully they will share the information on the site.
IT companies particularly in Bangalore offer high pay scale and lots of benefits. The scale compared to the US is measly but by the living standards in India it is indeed very high. Cheaper is a relative term. Cheaper comparing to US standard? Yes, but definitely not cheap comparing to local standard.
Harm? Don't see why. Kill? Definitely not. I use both and each has its own merits and the reasons for using them. I do see the move to x86 as beneficial for Apple because it in general opens up the door for more developers who have access to the x86 hardware and not just the PPC.
I maybe wrong on this but the study does not say that OpenOffice and Linux option is better than Office and NT. This is a plain research to find out if something works or not. And from it looks like, it works pretty well in educational environment.

We as owners of .net domains we will be screwed soon. Question is what is ICANN getting out of it?
I do not see enough features in the toolbar to let it occupy 25% (ok maybe less) of my browsers tool space.

Can it run linux? I can then add all homebrewed software I like.
Afraid not... ;-)
