I'm no aerospace engineer.... But I thought 747's weren't particularly strong. How much does all that water weigh compared with what a 747 could carry?
As much as I want it to happen, I doubt we're going to see 3GHz G5's at WWDC. Faster than the current ones, certainly, but I think 3 is too much, too suddenly.
IBM has had manufacturing problems aplenty and I certainly am not trying to call our buddy Steve a liar, but he made promises that IBM turned out to be unable to keep.... probably.
(Apparently Slashdot doesn't support Unicode. Shame.)
It depends on what rules you go by.... A(-1) if you go linearly... just plain "1" if you go by the derivate pattern.... And on a scale of 1 to 10, this comment ranks 11 on the pointlessness scale.
Folding in thirds is such a pain in the ass. I distinctly remember not being able to do that until roughly the third grade without making the letter look like shit.
And obviously, I wrote maybe four letters in my life before I went completely (or as completely as possible) digital. What a waste of time, learning to fold things into thirds.
And don't forget that the current round of G5's are currently almost a year old... and long due for an upgrade. I hope some other instituion builds a 1,500 G5 2.6 GHz cluster:) (Or something to that effect.)
I know I could run Descent 2 on my 486 back in the day, and this has roughly 5 times the clock speed. I bet it'll run games up to about Half-life era graphics, maybe a little more.
Grandparent: Search engines are like car manufacturers to people. The first one they found they really liked they love and adore and ignore all the others that come after it.
Parent: If your statement were blanket truth, then everyone would still be using MSN Search for everything.
There's a flaw in your logic. No one has ever "really liked" or loved or adored MSN Search.;)
"TV BAD! DOING THINGS GOOD! LOLOL" There are so many downmods that suit this it's not even funny.
1) Offtopic - this crap has little to do with the actual PVR. 2) Redundant - It's been said on every/. thread that has anything to do with TV 3) Troll - The poster is likely just wanting a response from anyone who still likes TV. 4) Overrated - granted this one's subjective, but it seems to fit.
But despite all these perfectly suitable mods, you give this rehashed, regurgitated crap Insightful?/me sighs and crawls back into his hole.
..... .....
:)
What do you want, a cookie?
Seriously though, this would be great to run Linux on... Like a new Zaurus perhaps
Then again, in a flight simulator I've flown the 747 straight up so you could approach the burn and then climb hard while dropping the water.
:)
Do I even need to add anything to make you sound less credible?

You can't karma whore by making jokes - Funny mods don't affect your karma.
And on top of all that, I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico!
when the Apple is dying trolls ran rampant.

Personally I expect 3GHz around Septemberish.
That must be A(pi)

Seriously. The basement's too cold.
You finally have the ability to really imagine a Beowulf cluster of those things. Rather than telling all the Slashdotters to imagine it for you!
"We sold the Inaniums! We sold the Inaniums!"
"The Itaniums, however, remain unsold."
*hopes that was not an actual mistake but rather a poorly conceived pun on "inane"...*
They haven't got the XServes installed yet? I know they were selling their old G5 PM's as a special refurb sort of deal.
As for "can't say much"... I think that having the world's third fastest supercomputer for a fraction of the cost of its peers says plenty.

I am from Wisconsin
Wow.... THAT qualifies you.
And I thought "I'm a biologist" and "I'm a lawyer" were bad.
(PS: yes, I'm kidding.)
I thought farts were mostly methane?

If you play play Diablo II without a mouse, you deserve a cookie.
It's likely to be cheaper than an iPaq,
Highly doubtful...
Looks like a low power server to me. Or a GPS unit with software you can update. I'd sit one on the dash of my van.
It'd also be great for emulation. The thing just screams MAME. Or Ultimate Amiga Emulator.
Assuming there are emulators for Linux (never looked, but I can't imagine they aren't out there) it sounds like you're in the market for a Zaurus.
*COUGH* vaporware *COUGH*
:D
Maybe Duke Nukem Forever will run on this thing.
Because I can't carry a microwave around in my pocket, and it would require some significant source of electricity.
You don't need to... any cordless 2.4GHz phone will do the trick.

There's actually a forum where one of the members used the Goatse man as an avatar.
Boy did we hate when that guy voiced his opinion.
