I think that there is a problem with newer programmers going into a language such as say, java, or C#. When i learned programming i learned C++ in ms-dos. We wrote our own string classes, used pointers, learned ADT's like, linked lists, and binary trees. Nowadays in java you write a program and use everyone elses stuff. there is a linked list class in Miscrosoft's.NET framework. Nothing is ever written from scratch anymore. IMHO you cant learn actual programming without getting into the nitty gritty your self.
Based on 2.6.3, I think that this is the first distro to use the 2.6 series by defult. I could be mistaken though. Debian has had sid packages for 2.6 for a while.
There needs to be a chapter on bash prompts. I have seen some slick prompts. Displaying; uptime, current directory size, time, battery power, etc. I'm pretty satisfied with a user@host:~, but i do like to put color in mine.
"I mean, if this isn't predatory behavior then I don't know what is."
It's pretty predatory to me. If there is no competition with different operating systems then microsoft can get away with releasing 3rd rate products. Unfortunately as unethical as this is. I do not think its illegal. But i'm pretty confident that SCO is digging themselves into a hole, and a judge is going to say "Get outa here, and write your own products instead of exploiting someone elses work."
The purpose of the live CD is not as your actual OS. It is used for testing the operating system to see if it works correctly with your hardware. I have also used P.H.L.A.K (A lighweight, hackery live CD also, like knoppix based on debian)for disaster recovery on windows systems. It works quite well.
Just stating MY opinion, but i prefer KDE over GNOME. KDE is pretty stable, although i do still have problems with (seemingly) random crashes of Konqueror, etc. This program sounds like it will make already great software even better. Sort of like the customer comment card at resturants, although i dont think they read those.
Almost everyone knows that if it can be protected, it can be cracked. There could be horrible implications to this, just imagine sending actual code across a network. It will take some "1337" hacker just a couple of hours to crack the system wide open. And if he/she can send raw code to tell the network how its going to work, and tell the devices connected to it how they work. he/she could essentially control them a lot easier than todays more "traditional" methods.
Employees of these company's would also be prone to use linux at there own homes, because they use it at work. This is like fresh university students using unix at the work place, because they used it in college.
See, i didnt have a shockwave plugin installed. So this link just popped up a blue full screen window and did nothing (hey! like windows.). NEway. then killall konqueror didnt work, so finally "xkill" and that sexy little scull and crossbones cursor took care of it.
I'm sure we all remember windows ME, it came out in this same situation. 98 was stale, and XP still had a ways to go. So they released the most buggy piece of shit... Windows ME. it was a great way to start off the new millenium

I imagine that SCO will have to show that specific machines are running Linux
Screw that, they have to first prove what parts of linux are allegedly "stolen"

err.. MyDoom should have done a better job.

Wait.. that's how SCO is deciding who there gonna sue.

I'm not a big supporter of S.U.S.E linux, but i'm sure this settlement made them relax a bit.
er.. i could be a little mistaken but AAA's have a MUCH lower amperage than motorcycle battery's. Not to mention the fact that there not to portible
hehe, im still waiting patiently on kde 3.2
