  2. Re:Palm Zire 72 on Palmtop Nirvana? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Kind of ironic.. I bought one on ebay about....45 seconds before i saw this article. I am a college student and the todo list is great for homework. The zire 71 is replacing my (very) worn Palm Vx. The zire plays sound with realOne player, has a "hidden" camera, and even plays movies somewhat. I look forward to receiving it. What drove me to it is relatively low price. i recommend it highly

There are ony SOO many toy story characters, after this there going to have to start naming them after the etch-a-sketch, piggy bank, etc. on the other hand.. there have been 2 sequals since woody was released.

  4. On hold on Apple, Motorola Plan An iTunes-Friendly Phone · · Score: 4, Interesting

Now how freakin' cool would it be, when you put a freind on hold to take another call, poop, etc. It would play the music (in a somewhat reduced qaulity) like companies do when they put you on hold. just remember to properly liscense it.

  5. This is all pretty funny but... on Celebrity Casting For LOTR · · Score: 1

In case you havent seen all the LOTR movies (i saw the first) Most of the actors have on so much makeup, all of the "famous" people in the main comment would have to have wooden signs hanging around there neck to be able to tell who they were. except of course for Mick Jagger (you can spot him, rather his mouth a mile away) and froto, or whoever the main hobbet dude is, because he doesnt wear makeup.

  7. Fras on Jakob Nielsen Interview on Web Site Redesigns · · Score: 1

I dont believe this was in the article, but a TOC frame, and then a main page frame used to be an extremely popular design, like This [qbasic.com] But you dont really see it anymore. It would be interesting to know why this is not popular anymore. it technically saves time in loading because the only the framw which has changing content is loaded. Any ideas?

I heard something a while back that adresses the drawing issues between linux, mac, and windows. And looking at the way it is done you can see that in windows items are drawn before processsing, but in mac, and linux more processing is done before any GUI is drawn.

  12. Enough is Enough on 60GB iPod Coming? · · Score: 3, Interesting

I have almost 10 GB of music on my pc. I only listen to about 50 of them on a regualr basis. Does anyone really need 60 GB of music. Yes it can be used for backup purposes. But dedicated backup external hard drives at a higher storage capacity are cheaper than this.

  19. Mozilla vs. Firefox on Mozilla 1.7 to Become New Long-Lived Branch · · Score: 5, Insightful

On a decnet computer IE will load in just a second or two. In contrast Mozilla takes at least 10 seconds before you get anything on the screen. Firefox is just as fast as IE. However. probably a good 50% of explorer is already loaded all that needs to be done is draw a new window, this can be proven by crashing IE (not hard) alot of times the whole desktop disapears. This shows how well firefox is written because it must load entirely from scratch.

I'm sure everyone is familiar with the "killer app" theory, if your not then it goes like this. Every operating system must have an application that will make users buy the computer just to use it. For apple it was Visicalc, for DOS it was Lotus. If this 3D desktop works, then it could very well be the definative "killer app" for linux.

Any little kiddie who is going to copy a virus and change some code around isnt going to get very far, because the virus scanner is still going to pick it up. It would involve magor changes to change the virus enough for the scanner not to pick it up as the orignal virus. Just look at the last few varients of MyDoom, they hardly made a dent. As long as end users have updated scanners it should not pose as much of a problem.
