"With just one seizures more money is confiscated than any one of us will earn in 50 or so life times."
And with that statement you cast light on another reason for the continuation of the idiocy that is prohibition. As long as the whole drugs chain is illegal the government can seize their assets for the governments' own use any time they like with no legal risk. Govt. can let the money from a huge munber of people concentrate into a few high-profile targets then just swoop in and take everything with the added bonus that they can point and say "See, we're doing something" to keep the right-wingers happy.

I can add some evidence to this. A few years ago I suffered some brain damage - not horrific but enough to shave about 20 points off my IQ. Before that I could read at about 2-3 times the speed i can now - I was able to flash into my mind's eye an image of a page and then parse it while I was turning the page. Since the injury I have to scan the text. Numbers are the same - I could pretty much instantly memorise a 12 digit number and recite it back. Now if I want it to stay more than a few moments I have to sub-vocallise it - something about running it through my speech centers helps my brain keep the information.
OTOH I'm a lot more socially functional since - I can actually enjoy people's company rather than constantly analysing everything they do.

A friend of mine had a new HR drone start at the place they work who decided that everyone needed new contracts. After a month of badgering to sign the revised contract he went through it and found a whole load of extra stuff that had been slipped in (not subtly, the old contract was about 8 pages, the new one about 10). He crossed out all the sections he didn't agree to, initialled the crossings out, signed the contract and photocopied it before handing it back.
