How do we know Ed Bott's comment is not a hoax too? He just said a MS spokesman told him so, but where's the source?

I believe the real story is, MS did invent this Play-Once DVD, however due to huge amount of negative comments from Slashdot, they pulled a PR spin, and instructed that spokesman to tell Ed that it's a hoax.

Moreover, he envisions getting money from other Web services, such as blogging or photo-sharing services, that might pay Flock for sign-ups sent their way from the Flock software.

Is it Opera all over again in terms of its business model?

Or does it sound like a legalized spyware?

If this is the case, this RedOwl can easily be fooled where there are multiple gunshots, especially in a battle field.

While system could fire back at an enemy, it would be dangerous to have a weapon-toting robot that could open fire on its own. You need to have a man in the loop.

By the time a man reacts, the sniper could have fled, or worse, fired another shot at him.

Spammers spam because they think they have the freedom to spam, and the only way to stop this is to take away their freedom, ie some jail time.

Failing that, I thought the fine is a bit small, but sooner or later, people will find the "threshold" fine to impose, which basically make the whole spamming business unprofitable.

  15. Like programming? on 'Kiss of Death' Discoverers Get Nobel Prize · · Score: 4, Insightful

The degradation is not indiscriminate but takes place through a process that is controlled in detail so that the proteins to be broken down at any given moment are given a molecular label, a 'kiss of death', to be dramatic. The labelled proteins are then fed into the cells' "waste disposers", the so called proteasomes, where they are chopped into small pieces and destroyed.

Isn't this similar to the way OO languages are doing, create an object, use it and dispose it.

Actuall, isn't this the way we are doing things on a daily basis? It's interesting to find out that even our body is unknowingly doing almost the same process.
