  1. Re:GMO scientists, who do you think you are? on Activists Destroy Scientific GMO Experiment · · Score: 1

I didn't say i was against GM in general. I am against common practices of the Patented GM for profit brigade read (Agribusiness) in which Monsanto is only one example. Using unorthodox methods such as firing a gene from a bacterium into the genome of soy and corn and not making sure that there is not contamination of crops in the wild or taking care to study the repercussions is the problem.

  2. Re:GMO scientists, who do you think you are? on Activists Destroy Scientific GMO Experiment · · Score: 2

yes but through a natural cross-breeding process. Not by using a gene gun to fire a foreign gene from a bacterium into a random place in the genome of a plant and then waiting decades to see what happens. See Monsanto. Do yourself a favor. Just google "The world according to Monsanto" Watch the documentary and see for yourself behind the scenes.

  3. Re:Sounds like on Activists Destroy Scientific GMO Experiment · · Score: 5, Interesting

If you file patents on any GM product that has the capacity to cross-contaminate natural organisms with your patented gene thereby giving you the opportunity to sue people for growing crop with your contaminated gene then you should be thrown in the same pool as Monsanto.

If engineering a plant that allows you to douse them with weedkillers killing all weeds while not affecting the plant and you tell the public there will be no repercussions from said practice then superweeds show up on the scene that are resistant to herbicides then you should be thrown in the same pool with Monsanto

If your internal documents show that you knew of many problems but you lied to the public then you should be thrown in the same pool as Monsanto

The question then becomes. What procedures are in place to absolutely 100% prevent these scenarios and many more from happening?

"If Microsoft approached HTC and threatened them with massive litigation costs and threats of injunctions that would halt sales of their products in the United States then it is due to Microsoft threatening HTC" This is exactly what happened. Apple sued HTC then right after that Microsoft threatened HTC with infringing MS patents. HTC was getting attacked from both sides. They decided to pay MS their fee. Its possible that some of the patents that Apple is suing over are overlapping with MS patents and so HTC may be trying to use some of the licensed MS patents to defend themselves from Apple Both Apple and MS are taking different approaches to killing off the Android competition in the marketplace. Apple is litigating to stop Android being sold in the marketplace because the competition is hurting them. Microsoft is trying to add a sticker price to Linux and extract a OS tax from any open source operating system that makes it to prime time. Both approaches are sleazy. Instead of competing in the marketplace on the merits of their products and outrunning competitors with innovation they decide to use litigation and extortion techniques respectively. Its sad really.

So no its not the same thing not even close.

Also there is not infinite resourses to go after every dictator that turns small arms and light armor at their people. I don't see North Koreans calling for a NO-FLY-ZONE over N-Korea. Nor are they threating to raze entire cities to the ground.

The dynamics of each and every situation in each country are totally different. There is not a one size fit all approach that will work for every single situation.

Thats good for you if it makes you feel better. No one said they broke the law. That was not even the discussion here. The discussion is that Sony in particular is hostile to the consumer and consumer rights and when you agree to their EULA they believe that they have every right to take away something you have purchased from them because of that EULA. I will advise anyone I know purchasing Sony products to seek the advice of a Lawyer before purchasing such products. This is the way the free market works. If a company believes they have the right because of their EULA to remove features after they have been sold to you then the customer has the right to avoid that company's products. And I have the right to alert everyone I know about the practices of this company in the marketplace. If I know someone who purchased a 4-door car and the manufacturer came into their driveway and welded the 2 back doors shut because they feel the EULA allowed them to do that then I have the right to advise friends, family and all my customers to avoid the products of such a company. Sony is such a company. No FUD its real.

It seems that Sony takes their holy EULA to be the end-all for any legal situation more so than most. I would advise people to seek the advice of legal counsel before purchasing *any* Sony products. Or just simply avoid Sony products all-together. When you look at the history of Sony and the consumer you see that they are consistently hostile towards the consumer. Cracking down on home brew, The wholesale disablement of their customers CD-R Drives on their computers with a rootkit. They also have tried relentlessly to lock people into proprietary technologies and control media standards over the decades. Beta-Max, Memory Stick, Mini-Disc, And finally better success with Blu-Ray. And now draconian legal policies against consumer freedom to tinker with products they bought and share information. At this point avoiding Sony products should be a no-brainer. I for one will advise anyone that mentions the word Sony in my presence to stay far far far away from Sony products.
