Interesting. I renewed my Reward card. Why? I have only received over $150.00 in Best Buy credit. Which I happily spent at Best Buy. I have always received my MIRs (and I am a techie who hits Pricewatch first and other online retailers). Sometimes BB has the better deals, especially when I can drive home from school and pick up the thing I want.
If your mother had bought an eMachines computer, eMachines would have sent you the new computer at their cost, and the box they sent it in would have had the paid return shipping label inside so that you could use that box, the new shipping label, and send the PC back. That's how it was for my fried laptop.
One of the problems is that it is very difficult to install a MS Windows product with separate partitions. I spent hours one day reinstalling XP multiple times until I get the system to default the Program Files and "Documents and Settings" to my second physical drive.
MICROSOFT: LISTEN! Allow multi-partitioning during the install process! We need to store user data to a other drives so when the OS corrupts we don't lose anything.
I have only had a few problems with the BB rebates. A couple of them were my fault. I have about a 90% success rate with their rebates getting to me within the 6-8 week turnabout.
Granted, it is getting to be hassle for me. But then, I don't have to wait a week for an item I could have bought online for the same price to be in my hands.
The reason why people haven't made a run on Seattle is because they are just as happy to have me or whoever the techie is reformat their hdd and re-install their crap for them. I'm happy to take their dollars.
However, that doesn't necessarily mean they are happy with what happened, but recoveries from this crap aren't terribly difficult, just annoying.
Most of them don't know they have a choice. However, I do start them down the road to OSS/FSF world. I give them OOo, AVG, RealAlt, and lots of other free stuff, that is immediately useful to them and doesn't take long to learn to use.
At least MS Word can read and write WordPerfect files. (I came across this unfortunate situation when trying to toot the OSS/FSF/OOo mantra and benefits).

That's why I rename the Firefox link to "Firefox Internet Browser", and remove all IE links.
