Most of the Bush White coming out of Afghanistan since the invasion is destined for Iraq as well, so we need to consider that too.

I never suggested there was a pentagram in the basement of the Pentagon, only that, given what they are asked to do in Afghanistan and Iraq, and soon Iran and Syria, that confusing the Pentagon with the Pentagram is only natural.

While they are not responsible for the policies they are being asked to enact, it hardly seems fitting to honor them for their sacrifice when we're looking at over a million dead Muslims by their hand.

A lot of what makes Penny Arcade so great is that these guys have demonstrated their integrity... a big part of why people tune in to the site is because they know Gabe and Tycho say it like it is. Once that's lost, it's over.

Moreover, my compassion for my fellow human beings extends across all dimensions, not just space. Carving out a chance for a really poor kid to grow up to become successful could mean feeding so many more people for that $100 twenty years from now than feeding a single family today.
We can't just be feeding people so they go on to reproduce and we end up with more hungry people. At some point you have to look at how to break the cycle.
My first concern is that once given away, a very poor family might look towards selling the laptop on the black market for food, clothing, etc. How much expense would be added if biometrics were incorporated into the design so that once a laptop is "mated" to a child, only that child can operate it, thus rendering its worth on the black market so much less?
So you end up manufacturing fewer laptops, but maybe that means more of them end up being used as intended?
(and the hand crank is too cool to leave to the kiddies. I am forced to wonder whether so many of us would still be strangers to the ladies if required to produce our own power.
