man, yeah hip-hop (some, not all) truly outshines this electronica movement. especially when all that synth crap starts sounding the same. theres very little message/meaning/nice beats. Some gangster hiphop is just plain entertaining. Outkast like u mentioned is phat and other groups know how to have fun and nothing but. Also, Being a geek can be rather helpful, it can help u meet nice chix at a boarding school "hey can u help me setup my network connection?" (sounds like the intro o a pr0no if u ask me) My freinds span the social strata. Its not that bad to be a geek anymore, people don't make fun of you unless you stay home all day, but its fine to code and be 'l33t where im from, just dont overdo it and itll be fine -n-rs-
i assume u mean Info Sys when u say CIS... if so, most CS majors take jobs programming right? and a CIS major would more likely know how to program but spend most of his time uh... doing network based stuff. u can do perl or shell hacks but you spend more time keeping the data flowing... right? or am i just wrong too. CS is much more math and theoretical crap, u spend your life with a compiler... (oh yes stereotypes.)-n-rs-
pleez. who cares, his teacher said "do it" he did it and now theyre mad? screw that... the teacher is just embarrased to all hell. someone should kick him in the pants for underestimating kids. but theyre no reason to promote the kid. the days of "rage against the (academic i guess) machine" are over no more of this "hack the planet" bullshit. why can't people understand that being able to get around security is like having new york street smarts, its something thats phat to have, but its not exactly all that neccesary OR something that everyone has to have OR is that special anymore. Hackers have lost their luster due to the influx of people who think "i can do that too" in order to get chix. bah hacking is a joke. -n-rs-
Hmm. Idont know. An outdoor case while seemigly attractive... doesent seem incredibly feaible. You would need a compleatly sealed case and power supply and all that fun stuff. But even beyond that, wireless technologies are still painfully slow compared to what most land lines offer. I suppose you could encase the entire thing in a plastic box... and run some conduit down the pole for power cabling... but you probably thought of that already. You could ask wavelan too, although they probably wouldn't tell you. In any case, i personally think its kind of like shooting yourself in the foot. I also dont have a tremendous knowledge about wireless networking. If you can seal the case, and make it small enough to fit on the pole though, by all means let linux rule and the peons drool.-n-rs-
i must say that im rather disturbed, yet nor surprised at this occurance. as a frequent user of the cmu network myself, i made use of these servers and downloaded my share of music and games.. files and movies. it was all kind of open. The funny thing is, this is DURING the school year. During the summer when all the precollege and governors school's kids come in, there is rampant piracy. All my friends shared their mp3's, movies and warez. It was just the thing to do. CMU IT has previously deactivated student accounts for such conduct but not to this measure. I think that while this IS wrong, it should not have led to the actions taken by the administration. I mean, sure ive been bad, i downloaded, but that doesent mean i did it with malicous intent to harm someones elses profits. -neal. nshyam@choate.edu
