Anyhow, it's ironical that you make this argument here, where the archetypal slashdotter is a virgin geek that hacks computers in his mom's basement while the football players get all the girls...
It's worth noting that while we joke about this I suspect it's far from true. I know the plural of anecdote is not data, but I'm a geek who hacks computers, but not in my basement (it's a 120 year old house and the basement is unfinished), lost track of how many girls he's slept with around 5 years ago, has a son and a bisexual girlfriend who tells me she wants to move somewhere that polygamy is legal so I can take on a few wives and spread my intelligent genes around.
I think geeks in general tend to have more liberal views towards sexuality and by associating with like minded individuals we tend to find more opportunities to have gratifying sexual experiences.
I would assume standing right on the edge of any geologically significant crater as it is formed would be a bad day regardless of how many times or ways it kills you.
I haven't made it up to Porsches yet, but I've got a sweet little Fiero I take out on the weekends:) Can't beat a 2-seat mid-engine on twisty little roads.
I personally think the "benefit" of this law is that it gives law enforcement an excuse to pull you over so they can "smell [pot|alcohol|etc.]" and search your car. At least that's how they seem to use it around here.
I'm with you on that. I think we need an educated populace, but if the school's I went to are representative of the norm, we're doing it WRONG. I just had my first son, and I've already told my girlfriend that we are NOT putting him in public school unless we move out of the USA (to someplace with better schools of course [they exist somewhere, right?], it's quite possible we'll end up where it's about the same and I'll have to home school him anyways).
I work in real estate so I need a car to show clients houses (can't exactly take a family out to look at houses on a motorcycle), but I overall agree with your sentiments. I've even done you one better and moved my office into my home so many days my entire commute consists of going downstairs to make some tea and then walking back upstairs to the office. Bonus enviro-points for saving energy by wearing my PJs all day so I do less laundry.:)
Kill off all the squirrels and birds, and you end up with more mice and grubs and other pests. There's a natural balance. Feral cats upset it.
(5 paragraph irrelevant rant about dogs removed)
Maybe if we (ok, our grandparents, whatever) hadn't already killed off all the natural predators (wolves, bobcats, foxes, etc.) this might be true. As it stands however, my guess would be that rodents and birds are living in way larger populations than natural, and our cats knocking off a few isn't a big deal. I can't even glance out my window without seeing half a dozen squirrels. They're not exactly on the verge of extinction.
If we have 30 years to prepare for anything hitting us this big the best thing we could do is stick a bunch of really smart people in the best spaceships we can whip together, land them on it and tell them to get to work figuring out how to keep their new home from splattering into the Earth. Even as bat-shit insane as this sounds I bet we could get at least a couple hundred volunteers from slashdot alone.
Why didn't you wait till the resolution restores, btw? Or didn't choose to return to previous settings?
That's the thing I'm really not getting here. He should have very quickly gone "shit, this isn't what I wanted!" AND NOT CLICKED THE "YES, I'M REALLY SURE I WANT THIS" BUTTON. In any event, as other posters have pointed out, this is fixed in the new release. Gripe received, processed, and fixed. Find something else to complain about.
You just sent me off on a few minutes of frantic googling trying to figure out if the singer was a kernel hacker in his spare time. I mean, he looks sort of like a slashdotter...
While I agree with you generally, sometimes this just isn't an option (i.e. audio source too quiet to hear, only speakers available built into your laptop).
If it wasn't for the police and the courts being overfunded and willing to spend 8 months and who knows how much money investigating me and my friend smoking pot when we were 16 I wouldn't have a criminal record and thus could get a decent job and wouldn't need food stamps and medicaid to support my family.
I would think that there would still be a selection bias in play in the free-range vs incarcerated study. After all, even if the police haven't caught up to you, the researchers apparently have.
I'd like to point out that you're responding to a thread talking about a city where they do NOT deport people for simply being illegal so that they CAN call for help if they need it.

The people in this area wanted X so next year it should be easy to have them pick Y? What?

Shit happens.
Get over it.
If you don't acknowledge the normal alarm you could have it drift your car over to hit the rumble strips along the side of almost every interstate.

However, I've only played with the plugs (and not the sockets)
The story of many a slashdotter I'm sure...

The illegal immigrants are not making the rules, the government is.
Just because something is common doesn't mean it's right.
Sort of like this? http://wubi-installer.org/

In Soviet Russia Pulse kills YOU!
I was going to post replying to your grammatical discussion, but instead I'm going to go and try sprinkling some cumin on some cheese.
Occasionally you see a few grow into "baseballs of ice"
