Hmmm, i didn't even know those existed. But, those only work when the program is running right?

My family for example uses a spreadsheet for everyones wish lists, and another for packing lists for camping and travel. Sadly, even the very simple google interface confuses them. In reality, a wiki would probably work just as well..

Notice, there are contradictions in these definitions, so some gray area exists. Notice also, the definitions you didn't paste confirm what I said.

Also notice, the tubes continue to agree with me. Preserved does not mean mineralized, or decomposed, or replaced.

"Simply evidence of past life is not enough, otherwise anything older than about 50 years would be a fossil."

An excellent point. At what point is something old enough to be considered "a fossil". I guess that is up to the person searching. There is no exact clear definition, but "evidence of past life" is the most broad and generally accepted. A fossil can indeed still be organic, but replacing the organics with minerals makes it easier to preserve. Any evidence of life though also counts, so a footprint from 10 minutes ago, if 'preserved' in some way, is then a fossil.

This simply shows that you are not their target audience. While I see uses for corporate user, nobody here seems to be mentioning home users. I think the home user has the most to gain.

FYI, 2+ people can be editing a google spreadsheet at once. This has come in handy MANY times already for me. And, you can send others a link to the spreadsheet allowing them to edit it (or simply view it). No, it doesn't replace excel entirely, because it has a slightly different purpose.

I would be more worried about the company that wrote the life support software than the OS. Either can probably be trusted to be stable if it is setup carefully and planned well.

Not to mention, I don't know that MS is selling their product with the purpose of running Life Support systems on it. I somehow doubt any life support equipment is running on the latest all-inclusive, for the masses linux distro.

I do concede however, a little piece of me dies everytime one of my workstations or servers lock up.

They're only 35000 years old - they are not fossils! They are simply old remains and are still bones, not rock.

They are still considered "fossils" by most definitions. A fossil can be either the remains, a cast of the remains, a mold of the remains, or just an impression (like a footprint, or tooth mark). Technically, a fossil is usually considered "any evidence of past life", so even finding an old bowl or club would count.

Coprolites are a good example of a "fossil" that doesn't fit the normal idea.

I tried it once, I am quite sure it simply gives newegg a shot at making a free $2.99, without doing anything special.

Excellent point. I had trouble loading newegg all weekend...where normally it is really fast. Their site already has a built in option for a high or low bandwidth version of their site.......why couldn't they just force everyone to the low version (I am assuming this would save bandwidth and server load, less queries). Yeah sure, it would be missing some fancy tools, and some flash (darn), but it seems far better than turning customers away. I wonder how many $ a site like Newegg lost for each minute of downtime this weekend.

I know of no single book that would give a good overall picture. A good place to start is to do some reading online about how some credit Christianity with causing the Dark Ages (or contributing).

Recently, some religious folks have tried to prove the opposite, and that religion is still spurring scientific progress. Some are also now claiming proof that Christianity is what helped us out of the dark ages. Do some reading...I think you will find it entertaining.

Also, I find it interesting to tie in reading about the decision making process, how the brain works, and how our decisions are not as logical as we believe. The religious convictions seem to be something we have evolved into....especially when even the most die-hard anti-religious person is often seen praying when their fight-or-flight kicks in.

You are right, I concede. It is God on Channel 12 we turn to for the weather....God is the person we pay to help us when green mucus is clogging our lungs. The religous leaders were never also the same as the scientific leaders. It has been this way through all of history, Gods role hasn't changed.

I'd recommend you read 'An Introduction To "look around"' (Reality, Now). I would also recommend anything in the area of 'History' (The past, whenever). It may help you get a better grip on how the role of religion on this planet has shaped our scientific world....and yet now the scientific world is shaping the religous one. Study the times when religion overpowered science, and look at the conditions of the planets and how it impacted the religous beliefs and convictions of the people at the time. A big picture is your friend.

But, this brings up a good point. It was once believed that "God(s)" controlled our health, the weather, our creation, and everything else. With each scientific discovery, "God(s)" role gets smaller and smaller. Really, the "God(s)" job is getting easier and easier every year. The religous community keeps changing what their beliefs are, in order to not conflict with what is found to be true. This is why "God(s)" can't be disproved.....it is a moving target.

So far, the only act-of-god I have seen this year, is helping the Bears beat the Packers. Other than that, I see no proof left.
