    How about using tools like bl or ledcontrol for controlling the standard keyboard leds?

    I've done this before with bl+kmail for that same purpose and it's quite simple; so everybody can do that right now without having to spend money in a special mouse or keyboard.

    A good backup application (at least system recovery, etc settings snapshots, home dirs backup).

    In Ubuntu you have sbackup (for Gnome) and konserve (for KDE) as very simple backup utilities for the average Joe.

    Sorry but you're wrong.

    The word here is support.

    A Linux system with support for a device is as easy (or maybe more[*]) to use as a Windows system.

    [*] IMHO, a modprobe module is easier/faster than a device driver configuration wizard with many questions
