This is an isolated incident. This totally isn't happening all over the country. The police totally don't violate people's first, second, fourth and fifth amendment rights on a daily basis. There is no need to watch the watchers. They are all honorable upstanding citizens. Also, the opposite of everything I just said.

Exactly! I mean people would know this if they read the article but this is Slashdot...

Basically right now they would not be able to do away with cell phone based radios in smart meters unless this device allowed two different connection modes. This is because 99% of the time data flow is low and can be delayed with no real consequenses. However less then 1% of the time the meters get firmware updates over the air and this does require some decent bandwidth especially in the mesh architecture.

Let's stop bein disingenous here. This article is about Cisco. If you purchase and maintain a Cisco SmartNet contract on a piece of equipement then you can call (toll-free) into TAC (technical assistance center) and speak directly with an engineer who probably knows more about IOS then you could dare to learn in a lifetime. This engineer will then usually be able to immedietely connect to your device and fix the problem. No other company has had better support and I do this for a living.

This is so true. This is a big reason why instead of using a one-time consultant, you should use a managed services provider who actually monitors, updates and maintains your network.

Of allt he raids I've seen video of, not one of them started without "POLICE! POLICE! POLICE!" so you have absolutely no grounds for complaint.

So I guess because they say "POLICE" after they blow in my door then that makes up for the fact that a bunch of non-uniformed officers with Guns drawn just crossed over my property line and snuck up to every entrance and exit of my house? The point is, they need to announce a lot sooner. When they cross the property line would be a good point and they need to be in uniform with badges showing.

You have a grave misunderstanding of capitalism and economics in general. As you increase productivity (or automate) then you reduce the amount of labor to generate something which is in demand. This then DOES get passed along to the consumer in the form of more things being available and for a lower price. For instance, without automation and technology, computers would not even exist.

See the problem here is not the employees. It is your managerial style. Saying that "Everyone is replacable" only breeds contempt for management. Sure if reality everyone has to be able to be replaced. But that means cross training, documentation, and communication. It DOES NOT mean you should be making an example out of every little thing. Moreover you have to look at employees as an investment and as the managers as enablers. If an employee is unproductive most often it is because of a lack of communication from above as to what their job should be and HOW to do it and that they are not provided with the required tools and training to succeed.
