Actually, you can turn the write buffer off. But that's not even required because Hard Drives really should have enough capacitors on them to clear the write buffer before they spin down. That is IF they were not designed by morons.

The first sentence is true. The latter is false. If you want to go down that road then let me explain. There are only a few broadband companies in the United States of America. In addition they employee very few people compared to other types of companies. This said... almost every other corporation in the US is a customer of these few companies. So IF they were REALLY thinking of the PEOPLE (Corporations at large as a general interest) THEN they would be SUPPORTING NET NEUTRALITY!!!!

You do what?! Do you realize how insecure IE6 is? Do you realize that they basically gave up fixing certain security holes in it because they were fundamental to the design? The only real Security Update for IE6 is in fact IE7 or Firefox. IE6 is garbage. It is prone to drive-by downloads of malware and browser hijacking even when no user input is provided.

Your post is spot on. The solution to the perceived problem by the way is two-fold. Add checks and balances to prevent direct democracies from voting pork barrel spending upon themselves and step two is to reduce the size of government overall. Yes, investment in Infrastructure is still needed by Government and they still need to run the police and fire dept. But over that it's all "cruft" as you say and we should abolish it.
